Just a year ago...
« on: Wednesday, August 14, 2013, 00:31:27 AM »
So much stuff has gone through AAO25 and Assist, so much drama, so much bullshit, so many things changing. I got bored and decided to go through my PM's to find some information and wow, us admins had a lot of chat and I forgot about a fair bit of it. Frankly, I forgot why Pit left here a while back but realize it was mostly due to my actions. I didn't realize as well that I had offended and confused the other admins when I raged and took over SourceForge and trolled this forum. A lot of shit went down around that time.

So, what is this post about? It's about 2 things really, the first of which is an apology since I never formally made one. I'm sorry to the admins and users of this forum for my actions last year. It created an environment that was less than ideal and added drama when it really wasn't needed. I can't help but feel that I'm at least partially responsible for souring Pit's attitude towards the game and it's players and because of that, this apology is extended to Pit as well.

That brings me to the second point of this thread; Pit. A lot of shit got stirred up lately when Jonny decided to unban him. Without a doubt, it's a controversial decision but going through my PM's was like stepping back in time to when things were different. Some of you may not know or may have forgotten that Pit kept this project going at one time. Frankly, he deserves to be thanked for that, just as ELiZ and Sergio should be. Pit got a lot of shit back in the day for banning players without evidence and several of them were valid, we just didn't have a way to provide proof. Below are some PMs from Pit that I think all of us admins should think about. It comes from a time when he was leader and when he went through the frustrations of contributing to this project. When you try to do something you feel is right for the project but the users just complain. Seeing Jonny's training and ELiZ's SAI threads, I feel these PMs is appropriate:

Yeah, I'm quite nervous, but at the same time I think I can stay distanced from all this. I'm pretty sure that it all doesn't matter so much. Truth is, that the forum community is just a small part of the total AA community, and no dramas on earth can stop people from playing.

I see you don't share my opinion in this case. I also don't like another drama that will explode. But I thought it over few times after my emotions went down, and I still claim all the facts back my conclusion.

Of course people will come and yell. But they always do in such cases. They simply never accepted my person as the project maintainer (cause it become by acccident), and they disagree to every controversial decision I make. The problem is, this environment simply calls for some controversial decisions from time to time. I can't let someone's yelling affect my reasoning. I have a brain and I'm not afraid to use it.

I'm banning this account: Player^Name, for exploiting of a server (not incidential, but 3 times).

Another thing: like many others, I'm also fed up with the crap talk flooding the forum all over the place. This forum looks like junk. I'm going to pay more attention into moderating.

I prefer this forum staying empty, than what is is today. GTFOKTHXBYE rule is now on.

Seeing this PM made me even more assured that unbanning Pit was the right move. He is a good guy and like all of us, got burned by AA's users and our own passion for the game. We are all passionate about this game, even to the point of putting all our effort into contributing something and it's understandable that when it's not well-received or people complain about it, it's a bit easy to go off the deep end. You just have to ignore the odd naysayer and keep doing what you feel is right. This project is built from a community and any one of us couldn't do it alone.

Warning: This thread is NOT about the discussion of Pit's unban. That is a closed matter. Any posts arguing about that matter will be deleted.

I still remember that steam chat when you took over the sourceforge and I uneasily asked if it was a joke or not. I'm still not sure if it was or wasn't as you seemed hesitant to answer, but everything seemed to turn out OK.

I still don't agree with your conclusion on Pit but to each his own. Having good intentions once doesn't excuse you from what you do after that.

Also, delete my post if you want, but you can't talk about unbanning Pit being right and then tell everyone else they can't talk about it. You already started it.

Your ending sentence is pretty damn cheesy but it's completely true.  :P

Basically, I took Sourceforge to get Pit's attention since he was ignoring me about a mAAp update on here. Bit drastic but it got the PM ball rolling. I won't delete your post but I will delete posts that say things like "unban pit and you must unban all hackers". No need for that in this post, that's not what this is about. I kinda ran out of steam on the last couple of sentences but basically, Pit said some pretty prophetic stuff and I wanted to share it and take the time to apologize for my shit.

Spank, you really do have cojones to retrospect the way you do and i respect you for that.
I also think Pit deserves a lot of respect for the time he was in charge, because as you well
said, he got burned by a community which reacted too often in a hostile manner against him
although he did what he could with the tools he had. I know very well that he suffered a lot in
silence, as i exchanged a lot of PM's with him when everybody had left the ship and mocked him.
So i'm just gonna quote myself again :

"If Pit had been in charge in the few last months and had banned XXX without
proof, everybody would have complained. Thanks to Sergio and his knew ability to
detect private hacks, we now know they are scrubs. Pit didn't have that detection
possibilities at the time."

Looking a all the PM's. Something I do quit often when i am bored hehe, so many things have happened, this project has gone so much further i thought it would. Once more, great job admins and whoever contributed to this project. Maybe someone could write a little history about this project, would be fun. Like 'at that time people were crying about Pit banning without proof', 'at that time people wanted to have mods off' etc etc. :)

Like 'at that time people were crying about Pit banning without proof'

Be precise, finish the sentence "...because he didn't have the tools".

+1 for spankys bravery for telling this truth about pit and other stuff, lots of dramas and lots of shit contribution towards project just made the game to be played for ''fun''. To be honest i remember this thing about pit, he did get burned by the community as he was ''not doing his job apparently'', people though he wasn't doing anything but he was...community just blamed him to much and so on he decided to quit the project and that made pit to change towards the game as a privilege of being ''hacker''

Current Community is shit to be honest, I'm not talking about admins because they do everything to keep the game alive and so on but we are talking about simple users of this forum. What they do is talk crap, they are not moving a finger towards the project and I don't think they would if they had a privilege of moderating forum or having a project in their hands. No idea but forum needs to be cleaned up, now this project needs everyone's help if you can't tell anything useful then shut up, jezz this is coming to a dating site, and yes I agree hackers shouldn't be unbanned but i think pit was just ripped apart from this community when he did the job and I know what i did and i not deserve to be unbanned but the community should fucking fix themselves up or else its coming to the 5 man or more work.

I don't agree with that.. yes there's a couple people talking shit every now and then, but that doesn't mean this community is ''shit''. The majority of the people here really appreciate what the mods are doing

If you do ever need to get that personal (and i can't see why, but it's up to you), use teamspeak and just do it OUT of this forum.

No flames, no insults, stay in/topic.
