So much stuff has gone through AAO25 and Assist, so much drama, so much bullshit, so many things changing. I got bored and decided to go through my PM's to find some information and wow, us admins had a lot of chat and I forgot about a fair bit of it. Frankly, I forgot why Pit left here a while back but realize it was mostly due to my actions. I didn't realize as well that I had offended and confused the other admins when I raged and took over SourceForge and trolled this forum. A lot of shit went down around that time.
So, what is this post about? It's about 2 things really, the first of which is an apology since I never formally made one. I'm sorry to the admins and users of this forum for my actions last year. It created an environment that was less than ideal and added drama when it really wasn't needed. I can't help but feel that I'm at least partially responsible for souring Pit's attitude towards the game and it's players and because of that, this apology is extended to Pit as well.
That brings me to the second point of this thread; Pit. A lot of shit got stirred up lately when Jonny decided to unban him. Without a doubt, it's a controversial decision but going through my PM's was like stepping back in time to when things were different. Some of you may not know or may have forgotten that Pit kept this project going at one time. Frankly, he deserves to be thanked for that, just as ELiZ and Sergio should be. Pit got a lot of shit back in the day for banning players without evidence and several of them were valid, we just didn't have a way to provide proof. Below are some PMs from Pit that I think all of us admins should think about. It comes from a time when he was leader and when he went through the frustrations of contributing to this project. When you try to do something you feel is right for the project but the users just complain. Seeing Jonny's training and ELiZ's SAI threads, I feel these PMs is appropriate:
Yeah, I'm quite nervous, but at the same time I think I can stay distanced from all this. I'm pretty sure that it all doesn't matter so much. Truth is, that the forum community is just a small part of the total AA community, and no dramas on earth can stop people from playing.
I see you don't share my opinion in this case. I also don't like another drama that will explode. But I thought it over few times after my emotions went down, and I still claim all the facts back my conclusion.
Of course people will come and yell. But they always do in such cases. They simply never accepted my person as the project maintainer (cause it become by acccident), and they disagree to every controversial decision I make. The problem is, this environment simply calls for some controversial decisions from time to time. I can't let someone's yelling affect my reasoning. I have a brain and I'm not afraid to use it.
I'm banning this account: Player^Name, for exploiting of a server (not incidential, but 3 times).
Another thing: like many others, I'm also fed up with the crap talk flooding the forum all over the place. This forum looks like junk. I'm going to pay more attention into moderating.
I prefer this forum staying empty, than what is is today. GTFOKTHXBYE rule is now on.
Seeing this PM made me even more assured that unbanning Pit was the right move. He is a good guy and like all of us, got burned by AA's users and our own passion for the game. We are all passionate about this game, even to the point of putting all our effort into contributing something and it's understandable that when it's not well-received or people complain about it, it's a bit easy to go off the deep end. You just have to ignore the odd naysayer and keep doing what you feel is right. This project is built from a community and any one of us couldn't do it alone.
Warning: This thread is NOT about the discussion of Pit's unban. That is a closed matter. Any posts arguing about that matter will be deleted.
