How to execute 25assist for linux?
« on: Tuesday, January 10, 2012, 08:46:04 AM »
Hi guys,

I'm currently using 25assist on Windows, but I'd like to install the program on my Linux laptop too.
So this is what I did:

1. downloaded the 25Assist-Linux.zip
2. extracted the zip and placed it in the directory /home/myusername/25Assist
3. opened terminal:
     - sudo chown myusername:myusername 25Assist
     - sudo chmod 755 25Assist
     - sh 25Assist
4. after running the last command, my terminal gave this output:

25Assist: 1: Syntax error: "(" unexpected

I tried to rename the file to 25Assist.run or 25Assist.sh, but it doesn't matter.
I also tried python and perl to run the file, but they also return an error.

Could somebody help me out here?

Extra system info:
laptop: Thinkpad T61
OS: Linux Mint 12 x64 running Gnome Shell
kernel: 3.0.0-14-generic

Thanks,

Mist!DasBrot

sudo chmod +x 25Assist
./25Assist
Do not rename it.

You must have Gtk2+ librarys (Gnome) installed to use it.
You will also need 32bit - 64bit librarys as it a 32-bit app.

Thanks for the reply.

I can easily install the 32bit libraries (skype needs them too ^^)
But it would be nice if 25Assist could be ported to gtk3.
The Gnome 2 development has stopped and most linux distro's are switching to Gnome 3 (Gnome Shell)
Fedora, OpenSuse, Ubuntu and Mint: they are all using Gnome 3 right now.
Gtk3 support would be easier for new users with a fresh linux install.

After installing the 32 libs, the program is running just fine :)

Hello

Only at some days ago i found this project and I am glad that the 2.5 was revived ;D
...But I am with big troubles to get this program working on my machine :'(
Wen i open this new 25Assist the program open and immediately close.
I am using the ubuntu 10.04 64 bits and i was able to play the game with the old assist.
I have here the old AA-25Assist-Linux_Null and it opens without troubles but wen i try to find servers (pressing DEPLOY) it give to me the message "An exception of Class OutOfBoundsException was not handled. The aplication must shut down"

 Any help?

Haha! I think that Null Assist you have is one that I made when Jonny's auth server was down for so long.

Grab the new files from here:

Hello guys

I first tested with the new 25Assist, but the program opens and immediately close with 1 error message on the console  "segmentation fault"
...Than i started testing with my old Assists and only the Null stay running , until i press DEPLOY and the program crash with the "An exception of Class OutOfBoundsException was not handled. The aplication must shut down" message.
Nothing upper here worked for me because following what Mist!DasBrot did i am stuck with the " ./25Assist" .
It say "./25Assist: is one directory"

I can open the game directly without the assist or with the old AA-25Assist-Linux_Nul going to settings and pressing "AA MENU"
I really dunno why this is happening with the new assist and the other old assists.....Have this something to do with the connection? The AA-25Assist-Linux_Nul was to avoid it wen your server was down, and maybe because that it doesn't crash too.

EDIT: I am testing the program in 1 old machine with the last ubuntu and it is working fine...So , the problem is only with the computer with the ubuntu 10.04 64 bits.

hello,
remove the ~/.armyops and ~/25Assist. do not start the game without 25Assist.
update: do not change any graphic and sound related setting within the game only through 25Assist
