Yeah yeah, I <3 you too Nate ---

BUT;

I swear to God's momma I'll kill the lot of you all if you don't get on with it.

It's time to bang that boggie will and start collaborating, despite the "why" and "what for".

P.S:. For those of you who are like "Oh, Dann's back" --I'm not. You'll understand why later on.

This daily chit-chat with-no-action-involved (and I mean project-wise, not sexual-wise!) becomes a frustration, after a while.

It really is. Hey, it might just be me. Fuck it if it is. The good thing is, I know it isn't.

And you know it too. Deep down, you want to.

Just do it.

lol sexual action :P I'll tell you what I think, I have a hard time doing it seriously (spending more time on it than I do) for the following reasons:

Not getting paid (start writing them checks Dann...)
Absolutely no chance of people playing it seriously.
It's old. I love the engine but... it's just old. More and more I realize Pipeline is limited by the engine, it's poor coding that gives low FPS, not low-spec computer hardware.

It is that understanding that should have set you onto E3 or what-have-you. As it is Dennis's understanding that he undeniably entertained by Game Engeniers and Coding that should have set him up. Same logic applies to all saints. We all have the drive to do something. All in different areas and with different paces, surely --but all, alike, interested. If we didn't, you (Nate) wouldn't keep perfecting Pipeline, or Dennis's mind wouldn't keep brainstorming different approaches and possibilities that could be worked out within the GE (Game Engine), and so forth.

I know there goes a long from "Hey, I like to do this every now and then!" to "Whoo-hoo, we're involved in a project with an actual mindset, some objectives and better even, we'd love to see it being played on every now and then!" ---Maybe there are other communities more willing to accept and interact along than AA's--- (Why did I say maybe? Fuck. It's 100% certain that there are!).

Nate: "Oh, I don't want to learn a whole new GE and whatnot. Too much work!"
Dennis: "Oh, that'd be fun as hell. I'll just watch it happen and bring joy when most needed!"
Etc: "Oh, blah blah *excuses* blah blah *more excuses* bleh bleh *invalid excuses* and finally, meh!"

Well then;

Nate: I bet GE have a kind of similarity to them. Not only that, you too need to realize starting from scratch now won't be nearly as hard as it was in the past. You now know a bit more, if not consistently more, about shapes, dynamics, textures, meshes, sounds, and so on. True, it could take you loads of reading and experimenting, but wouldn't that pay off in the long run? I mean, wouldn't map-leveling with a newer GE, that is being used widely across the gaming community and that is 1000x more accepted than the previous be worth it? You'd greater the chances of seeing your maps being played online. You'd give yourself that boost. From what I know of you, having that or not having it at all won't make much of a difference to you. But then again, that's not entirely true now, is it? I remember how community-founded you were back when mAAp was being played on. I remember seeing and feeling/sensing those wacky vibes from you, and it was, in all its naturally, very rewarding and joyful.

Dennis: You know this already. We've spoken about it a couple of times now. You have a problem in taking this seriously. More precisely, you have a problem taking yourself seriously. In being bound by and to commitment. In being honest as to what truly passionates you, and how your actions can make you different out of it. Hesitation, hesitation, I hear it echoing from down below. Wake the fuck up, will you, buddy? I'll promise you, you'll feel better once you've done. Oh you will, jolly mother you will!

[irony] Etc: I don't know what to say man. You were vague with your "blah blah". I guess I'll just tell you out. [/irony]

That's the thing Dann, different engines do things differently. Yea, I know textures and shit on AA but that's different than 3DSMAX and any other engine. To give you an example, I have failed both in using 3DSMAX and Blender. Game engine skills just don't transfer well with me.

Perhaps another UE game?

Wouldn't UE3 be close to UE2? As in, easier to transfer and adapt to rather than a whole different GE-family?

I can see you are still struggling to let loose of UE2. That's fine, though. Killing Floor sounds like a very good start, and from what we've heard, its community seems found of variations to the game, which is a plus we didn't have on the ever-lasting AA-painful-long-run. I reckon we, as a team, would do a brilliant job at creating maps to Killing Floor, specially since it's using UE2; our sacred homeland.

What's the verdict?

Me and Nate have started considering KF mapping, just so you know. There's been talks, but no concrete conclusion is to be taken yet. My take is, if everything runs smooth and KF leveling presents itself to be similar to AA's, then it would be right to assume we're getting back. That means Dennis and Delta, too. (What's the whereabouts of Dan? I haven't seen him around!).

Nate posted some questions on KF's forums: http://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/showthread.php?t=44644

I've replied with my own questions, too. You'll have to register if you want to read the content. Yeah, a bummer!

On other matters, amidst discussion, we (I'm assuming it's safe to say "we" at this point. Nate will most likely correct me, if otherwise) both agreed that whatever we do, won't be a continuation of mAAp. The game is different, the purpose is different and the circumstances are all different. With that said, I --fancy as I am-- came up with a possible name. Red Hands was my suggestion. Why? It's visually strong, and it emotes change, life, radicalism, revolutionism, agression, action, complex, personal, out of the ordinary, and so on. Anything that connects the conception of the colour red and its meanings, with the imagetic representation of what a hand may stand for.

Well from what I can see this game looks like it could be pretty fun to mod and map for. I didn't get into mapping until the support was already gone. I would love to give it a shot in a game where the community is supportive, and it looks like KF's community is pretty strong.

I wonder if Killing Floor is all it's cracked up (by Crunk) to be.

I'm obsessed, by the way. The gameplay is great and there's like over 9000 servers to put your maps on. I don't know how the editor -> official map thing works though. Crunk and me talked about it for a while a couple weeks back and he seemed to love the editor. He also said somethin' about wanting you guys to try it out. I'll have to look through my logs. All I remember is that he was almost done with SF Hospital and playing it and loving it. I think he was gonna use it to show you guys how amazing a project in KF could be. A memorable quote was "I wanna be the Spanky of Killing Floor".

I guess he's a little late for that, eh? I believe our (correction: Nate's) motivation towards Killing Floor leans on the fact that it's based on the same Game Engine, rather than being that the actual gameplay has interested us greatly. It might, or it might not. I wouldn't know since I haven't yet played it.

I'm taking a big risk now, but in my understanding, the concept of "Spanky" (as in a mapper!) is no longer burden by Nate himself, but by their comrades as well. It's a sort of comradeship that has grew bold and grand, that I dearly love. What Nate doesn't have, I, Dennis or Dan will. mAAp wouldn't ever be what it was if it wasn't for all the sweat, work, drama, bitching, work, drama, sweat, dictatorship, bitching, etc --that it was. We all had a part in it, and thus, we've given a new standard to the "Spanky" people know around.

I'd rephrase that. It's that we feel the need to mod (more precisely, map it!). It's that we feel as if we would want & enjoy doing so, which are two very distinct things. It is possible (confirmed on the KF forums, after some personal questioning!) to add KF soldiers and have them play against you. In other words, this game can be extended to a lot more than just zombies. Plus, their editor allows you to import actors. It's great that it does, really!

A memorable quote was "I wanna be the Spanky of Killing Floor".

lol I gotta map for Killing Floor now and take that title out of his reach. I'll be honest and say I'm pirating the game. From what I understand there's single player somewhat and I'll at least be able to use the editor and see how things are done. I'll also say that I'm not hugely excited or anxious, just looking at this point. I'll probably start with converting Pipeline but that may take a hell of a long time. 2.8 to 2.5 took days full of hard work, there's no AA textures, models or sounds in Killing Floor so... It'll be a full out port which means a lot of work to be done properly.

One thing I don't know how to handle... WTF to do for a site? Sub-forum here? Adapt mAAp and buy a new domain? Or just use the Killing Floor forums?
