For the last week or two I've been working down in the barn; cleaning and organizing materials. More recently, I've been working on re-building a small greenhouse to help plants in the winter and to get an early start in the spring. I made one shortly after moving here:

I'll be the first to admit, it's utter crap. Just scraps of wood with screws, tape and pellet bags. Plenty of warped wood used so the end product was far crappier than what I had imagined. Added atop uneven benches... it sucked.
So with winter approaching and seeing as that I wanted to use the benches for sitting, I decided to re-do this pile of crap. I've spent the last few days on it and quite a bit of yesterday since I didn't have internet and here's what I came up with:

It may or may not be impressing to you but it sure as hell is impressing to me. Nothing was bought to build this. It's made of more scrap wood (an old deck no longer in use), bricks, deck screws, pellet bags, and some spare paint I had laying around (for water protection). I don't have power down at the barn so building was quite a task. I had to cut the wood down there by hand, align & level things down there, temporarily tack it with nails and then bring it all up to the house to properly screw together. Fortunately, it's two pieces but that was still a big task. Unlike my first attempt, this is completely level and sturdy as hell. The bricks will keep the temperature more consistent and help with water distribution. It is two-tiered with the bottom tier being enclosed (picture above isn't final). I'm going to add some old emergency thermal blankets inside (think aluminum foil) which will reflect light, keep heat in and also create an air pocket with the pellet bags. This whole thing should do damn good for the plants. I'm proud :)

Plants certainly do deserve all this love you are giving to them.
I like your doings. I like that you take care of Nature so tenderly.
+1 Internetz.

Hmmm. I was expecting you to comment about how it's not made out of steel and thus is inferior. You're a hard one to pin down Skrewy.

Your Kind of Lucky if Vegetables will actually grow there.
I wanted a Orange tree when I was 6; by the time I was 9, The Plant had grown quite in the Large Pot we had, the Roots had overgrown and taken over every other pot nearby.
We had to cut them down and take the Plant Outside where it was set in the Soil in our Building, Its a Tree today.
But it never grew any oranges....
Yes it is a Orange Tree, some of the town folks we hired knew it from the leaves smell.

I plan to start vegetables and plants in there but will transfer them outside when they're large enough. Vik, I dunno if you've ever had it but homegrown is better than supermarket crap. With the supermarket stuff, they can do anything with the plant (pesticides, petroleum fertilizer, herbicides, GMO) and then anything with the product (coat it in a thin layer of wax and fungicide). It will still look the same but the changes are beneath the peel :)

lol sorry for Changing my post.

I have a meyer (or meier?) lemon tree and it's inside in a pot and grows lemons slowly. There's 4 on it now but they're green and have been green for many months. Although, up until recently it was in a small pot and had bug issues which both have been fixed and it's quite happy now.
