It all depends on what you want. Android is much more customizable but the iPhone is said to be a smoother experience, while not as customizable. I've also heard that some WP7 phones are really good, although not very customizable. Your best bet is to do some research on the OSs to decide which one you like best, then you can decide on what phone to get.

If your the kind of person who likes to make their phone their own, or frequently customizes their computer and stuff like that then Android is for you.

Iphone is for you if you're a person who likes to know they have a phone and all the capabilities. Kinda similar to the install and forget idea.

Are you really that connected? What are you doing, checking Myspace or something?

lol, people still use myspace? No, it's mostly to check where my classes are. My engineering labs are held in different rooms and building so I have to check the site to see where they are. Not to mention if I'm eating lunch and I want to look something up it is much easier to just pull out my phone than get my laptop.

Fair enough. I've not been to college so I can't imagine how busy and confusing it is. Your point.

I use an iphone and love it. I don't need to customize things, i have my pc for that. I use mine for business so that I can make money even when I'm not at the office sitting in front of my laptop. Plus the app market for the iphone is far greater than android.

Also the facetime feature is really nice, a few weeks ago my wife went to nyc on business for a week, and we got to chat face to face.

i just dont like smartphones just cuz they arent as durable as flip phones...(i know, for like and extra 30$ you can buy protectors n blah blah, but eff all that noise)...but then again, all i use a phone for is calls/texts

Smartphones also come with a big fucking price and seem to get outdated very quickly. My phone cost me $15 and I have no monthly contract and pay when I want, usually $25 every 2-3 months. I looked into it and for the same service, it's $40 a month with a contract. Stack data costs on top of that and a locked 2-year contract for a smartphone and you're just bending over for the system. Meanwhile, my laptop costs pennies to run, has GPS and I get free WiFi at various spots in town. Not to mention a huge screen and full-size keyboard.

To each their own.

So true. My first mobile phone was a Siemens A50. Lovely ergonomics, it was much more hand-fitting than most modern smartphones. Though and nicely built aswell. My 2009 crappy nokia 62xx series instead it's quite buggy and it's just not decently built at all.

Make sure your smartphone's camera has a flash. It sucks when you're trying to pack your bong in the woods cuz you live in the dorms and you can't just turn on your flash for lighting.

if you are breaking phones you are doing it wrong. Most plans also have insurance for $5 a month.  A smart phone is just another form of convenience.
nah, i use a 40$ phone.... has fallen out of my pocket at work on the concrete floor more times than i can count... now if i dropped one of those 500 phones once or twice, i would be lucky if the only thing fucked up was the calibration.

my flip phone has flashlight, pretty badass in situations like that.

Smart phone pricing is tricky. I have mine for 50 a month for 700minutes and 4gigs data and unlimited text and I got the phone for 100, the phone people are like car salesmen you can talk with them and work deals. If you own your own business try adding it as a line and so on. Theses monkeys work off of commission so put it to them

Good thing I know more about phones than cars. I can lie to them and they'll believe me.

I have been thinking about getting one of those "cheap" choises like Nokia Lumia 710 or Samsung Omnia W (or some Android phone), but I don't like the low battery life pretty much all smartphones have. That's pretty much the only reason with the price of course, why I haven't got one yet.

Checking my emails and browsing some sites occationally would be nice, but I guess it's not really necessary until I keep getting work projects regularly (which hopefully happens some day...).

u dont need an expensive phone for the internet/emails even ur $50 nokia will do that.
That's true, but those really cheap phones don't have wlan, which sucks. I rather use my old phone until I can buy something little better than buy another crappy phone with weak performance and extensibility. My current Nokia (3110 classic) has served me about 3-4 years now and I guess it will be just enough for a year or two more.

How often do you people buy a new phone? I got my third phone going in 13 years so I can't say I follow the trends that much. I think this whole smartphone business has changed a bit the customer habbits. People buy a new phone more often to get some new applications and games running.
