Animals and The Final Cut
« on: Tuesday, October 26, 2010, 20:16:10 PM »
Pink Floyd's Studio Albums (in order of best to worst)
  • Animals
  • The Final Cut
  • The Dark Side of the Moon
  • Meddle
  • Wish You Were Here
  • Momentary Lapse of Reason
  • The Division Bell
  • The Wall
  • Atom Heart Mother
  • Piper at the Gates of Dawn

I'm not familiar enough with Saucerful or Ummagumma to throw them in with the rest.

I'm not implying that any of these albums are not fantastic, this is how I rank them though. I'm hoping Nate and Knight have their own opinion of Pink Floyd and perhaps some other people will surprise me?

I'll surprise you. I really haven't thought about it. I seem to get the feeling that people listen to music a helluva lot more than I do. I had some classical guitar going the other day as background music for my workbench and before that, I couldn't tell you the last time I had opened Foobar.

Anyway, back to Pink Floyd. Songs I happen to fancy (In no order, but I do prefer these albums if I'm going to listen to Pink Floyd):

Pigs on the Wing - Animals
Brain Damage (Out Takes) - DSOTM Studio Demo
Us and Them - DSOTM (Japanese Pressing)
In The Flesh - The Wall (2nd Disc, C2K 36183 CD)

I love The Final Cut because although it may have been released long after they're more popular albums were and it is the last album to feature Roger Waters, it's still amazing. It's kinda funny because I grew up on The Final Cut and The Wall and The Wall is generally accepted as their best alongside DSOTM and The Final Cut is seen as their worst album. I went the opposite way, losing interest in The Wall (the movie is fantastic though) and absolutely loving The Final Cut. The story is great - that of a soldier at war and coming home to find that despite the war being over, it had changed nothing socially - and it's probably my favorite concept album of all time.

Some of my favorite tracks are:
Animals: Dogs, Pigs (Three Different Ones)
The Final Cut: All songs except When The Tigers Broke Free, which wasn't included on the cassette version I listened to countless times when I was younger. Especially enjoy The Final Cut and The Gunner's Dream
Dark Side of the Moon: Speak To Me/Breathe, Time, Great Gig in the Sky, Money, Us and Them, Brain Damage, Eclipse (lots >.>)
Wish You Were Here: Have a Cigar
Meddle: One of These Days
Others: Have a Cigar (Wish You Were Here), One of My Turns (The Wall), Goodbye Blue Sky (The Wall), Bike (The Piper at the Gates of Dawn), Atom Heart Mother Suite (Atom Heart Mother), Learning to Fly (A Momentary Lapse of Reason)

I'm leaving out many great songs but those are my favorites. Oh wow, just re-discovered the brilliance of One of My Turns.

Isn't that funny how that works? :P

They can't expect me to just start loving it. No. The album was perfect without it, there's no possible way that I can enjoy it. I've still never listened to it.

My last.fm says I've listened to Pink Floyd 456 times, with The Final Cut being the most played song with 24 plays. Only problem is, I tend to listen to Pink Floyd CDs and cassettes to this day, and I have 4 or 5 albums on vinyl that I listen to now and then.
