Title: Ports
Post by: Ganja on Saturday, December 19, 2015, 11:21:44 AM
I know there's a lot of topics about this already, but I've seen different information depending on the date.

My question is: What ports need to be open just in order to play Assist ?

I'm thinking maybe my ISP has started blocking some ports and I need to reopen them manually.

At least UDP 1716 (and 1717)

If you describe the issue we might narrow down the cause of it.

Can you log on?
Can you see the Serverlist?
Can you Join a server?
Is there any issues with PB, are you getting kicked?

it's related to this issue (http://aao25.com/forum/support/them-damn-red-crosses-(/)
That issue looks like it related to port forwarding for UDP on gameport+1(Normally 1716+1=1717)

I've seen other players that had it working, then it suddenly stopped, I've seen one possible reason:
1) local computer has a changed IP, making the existing port forwarding stop working. Verify with IPCONFIG in a commandline and compare with the port forwarding in your router.

I see no reason to why an ISP start blocking ports all of a sudden.
Title: Re: Ports
Post by: [SWISS]Merlin on Sunday, December 20, 2015, 08:15:06 AM
yes, i also guess this is a problem like above ELiZ did say.

in the past, when you get another ip address, what have you done with the firewall from windows and the port forwarding of your router? did you change it there also? or not?

because i did see you had a lot of ip changes in the past. the last good known ip which did work on your comp was 81.246.239.198 - looged in at swiss servers on 30.11.2015, 21.55.

did you change something after that day? did you change from cable to wifi or vice versa?
something must have forced you computer to change the local address of your comp.
also: do you use DHCP or fix ip address at your router for internal use? i guess you do use DHCP (its a setting option on your router), correct? if so, then you did something that has changed your local ip of your computer. maybe you did instal a new tv, receiver or others?

to solve this:
1. have a look at your comp to see which ip its been used for it. open a dos box and write
ipconfig /all
then you will see your ip address at "IPv4-Adresse" -> this is your local ip

2. go to your router, login and go to the section of NAT or PortForwarding. there you will finde something simular like:
wan: 81.246.239.198
lan (or local): your ip address
starting port (UDP): 1716
ending port (UDP): 1717

but be careful. everything you do change, WRITE IT DOWN TO KNOW what you changed. to have a way back where it was before (fall back).

it this doesnt work, then it could be your windows firewall blocking the ports because of the ip change. but step by step. try above first before trying with windows firewall and let us know if the local ip did change on your comp.

Ok I appreciate the feedback, I'll try it as soon as I'm home.

I'm thinking it's my ISP because another player from Belgium has the exact same problem
Title: Re: Ports
Post by: [SWISS]Merlin on Sunday, December 20, 2015, 12:02:43 PM
yes, its [SWISS]Nightguard. he is using wifi and fix cable - sometimes at the same time. guess this problem is also local to fix. but he had no time so far.

i really dont think that your provider is the part - except they did change something with IPv4 and IPv6. this is the only way they can force such a problem i guess. but we will fix this for sure.

Alright so I'm home and did some testing. I have never done anything like port forwarding before. I am using WIFI with my laptop since ever.

There's one thing that might be linked is the fact that I removed my SSD from my computer aproximately at the same time it started bugging, so maybe that caused a new IP? No clue if it's possible.

But I tried forwarding the ports manually and got this:

http://s16.postimg.org/mwgmnwt1x/Sans_titre.png (http://s16.postimg.org/mwgmnwt1x/Sans_titre.png)

It is still not working though

Try to change your computer internal IP static and then do that port forwarding to it. With having own server and having that red cross it helps, dunno how it would help with this but its good to try. Static IP should be something else than routers dhcp range, usually good to use something like 50.. if your routers addy is 192.168.10.1, then for example good computer IP is 192.168.10.60.

Its in network settings where you see your adapter, right click, properties, ipv4, properties and manual setting.

Also Windows Firewall settings, allow app... or advanced settings, create new rule, port, both: 1716, 1717 (separated with comma)

you dont have dhcp enabled, this is good in this case.
you did say you changed your ssd. was the operating system on it?
i guess yes, how did you changed the programs and operating system to the new drive. by restoring a backup or with a tool to copy all data to the new disk?

i do really think now that your windows firewall is blocking the 1717 ports. have a look to it. or do you use another firewall/antivirus software on your comp?

if you dont find it, i will be there tomorrow evening i you wish.

I tried disabling my firewall but it still doesn't work :(

the network adapter and your operation system did change then some parts after starting the disk at your sisters comp.

I don't understand what you mean.

To be sure you got me right: I removed the SSD from my laptop and put it in my sister's laptop to check something. But then I put it back in my pc. It's back in my pc now
Title: Re: Ports
Post by: [SWISS]Merlin on Wednesday, December 23, 2015, 02:03:24 AM
every comp has its own network adapter. every operationg system is related to the hardware you did install the os with. now you did change the disk with its hw relation from your comp to you sisters comp. guest what could happen? making a mix for your comp and her comp.
this could be the reason you cant start it now.

if you dont have other things except aa2 on your comp (how knows :)), try to reinstall windows and aa2 from scratch. should work then.
Title: Re: Ports
Post by: ronski on Wednesday, December 23, 2015, 03:15:33 AM
That could be related into it, but the computer works in every other network properly but not at home. Another guy from Belgium has the same problem. And another computer at Ganjas house has same issue, red crosses at serverlist.

It must be on your network, not on your pc. Either router has somehow updated itself or isp has fckd up. I would call to provider and ask for new IP range, or change the whole provider if they are not willing to help in your issue. It's their service what is not working, your troubleshooting has already proved where the issue is.

Setting up that hdd as secondary hdd shouldnt at least change anything, booting with it could do something..

Try these:
1. Reboot your router. Try then if things work.
2. If that doesnt work, reset your router, with a needle or something small enough for that little hole where reset button is located at. Hold it until all the lights flash. Try assist again.
3. If none of above work, check your proxy settings, and try to disable any proxy (I read this one as best solution in similar topic elsewhere.)

Pipezor, I've resetted my router already and nothing changed.

Merlin, like Ronski said, I can't play on any computer of the house, so is it possible that my SSD provoked something for the entire house ? Should I do windows re-install anyway?

Did you Ganja try that fill reset for your router? By pressing the tiny reset button for like 10-30sec?

Do not start re-installing your pc, it has nothing to do with this, you could re-install every pc at your house and you would still have the same issue.

Can you return your router back to its factory-settings and re-build your local network?

Im still pointing my hairy finger at isp, since all of a sudden you and another guy from same country got this error.

netsh winsock reset

         netsh winsock reset catalog

         netsh int ip stop

         netsh int ip start
Type those  command in cmd and restart your pc, try ipconfig again if it works.. because thats odd that it cant renew if dhcp (automatic ip) is enabled.

Seems for me also that its  something with isp or maybe a bad update with router...

If those dont work, try disabling the firewall of the router and then try assist.

open a dos box by right click of your mouse - run as Administrator
at the dos prompt, type: netsh winsock reset

then try again with aa2. what happend?

just for my information: the ssd disk you did attach by usb? or did you change the operation system disk which is buld in your comp?

Ok Teddy, so the problem is definitely ISP side.

I did it Merlin but doesnt work, even after a restart of PC.

I removed the SSD that was in my PC, not by USB, and then I put it back

According to my ISP site they have closed ports that can't be re-opened. But none of those are AA related right ? https://www.proximus.be/support/en/id_sfaqr_ports_unblock_webtrouble/personal/support/internet/e-mails-and-website/problems-with-your-website/open-internet-ports-that-have-been-blocked.html (https://www.proximus.be/support/en/id_sfaqr_ports_unblock_webtrouble/personal/support/internet/e-mails-and-website/problems-with-your-website/open-internet-ports-that-have-been-blocked.html)

i can confirm now, ganja and nightguard with the same problem do have the same provider
its belgacom skynet

from nightguard:
netname:     BE-BELGACOM-ADSL1
descr:          ADSL-GO-PLUS
descr:          Belgacom ISP SA/NV

from ganja:
netname:     BE-SKYNET-ADSL1

then its really almost sure that the proplem is at the provider.

ask them to open those ports again.

I have been calling them several times, and those people seem to have no clue what they are talking about, it's depressing.

According to them, it's impossible for them to determine which ports are open or closed (lol sounds so not true) and we should hire a private technician.

But if we hire a provate technician it's not going to change anything if my provider is blocking the ports right ?
Title: Re: Ports
Post by: ELiZ on Saturday, December 26, 2015, 07:40:35 AM
If I were in your situation, and had verified that the Port forwarding was setup correctly, I would disable Windows firewall, I would then temporary disable the routers firewall, just a few minutes to test if it works.

Don't forget to re enable the firewalls after your test.

There is also tools that you can setup with a friend, where you each run a program that tests the ports/and protocol you decide, in this case UDP, 1716/1717

I still don't know how to do all this port forwarding. Can you be a bit more specific about the tools Eliz ? And why do it with a friend ?

I'd like to add that another player from the same provider has the same issues

Edit: according to all the port testers on internet my ports are closed and my port forwarding is OK according to me. But you said it was a common problem Eliz with +1 stuff etc?

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS IT WORKS AGAIN.

I called supervisor of supervisor of supervisor and he did something, don't know what to my connection. I was off for 30 minutes and now it's all fine.

I'm going to ask what he has done when he calls me !

Thanks guys

I called them 5 times in total and only the last guy was smart enough to ask a supervisor.

Merlin Nightguard needs to call, they didn't open them for everyone for some reason ...

They obviously won't open them for everyone for security reasons.

Otherwise whoever could start up with that company and then call them saying "I need port x opened" and then use it to attack someone else with the same ISP.

Seems silly stuff to me, Unreal Tournament 2004, related mods and games (such as aa2) have been using pretty much the same ports for years and years..

Chances are some guy working for that provider company plays the game and Ganja pissed him off! xD
