Critical error - General Protection fault
« on: Saturday, August 09, 2014, 03:36:44 AM »
Hey!

I'm a noughty little fuck who wants to play AA at work. And some of you know I've done this before.

Now the problem is, as of late, it's not letting me play. I'm only getting CE every time I start AA. Sometimes it runs AA and then crasehs, other times it gives the CE right away.

I've also been having trouble on other application as well. For example, my Chrome seems to give me the 'Aw Snap!' page way to frequently and independently of the page.

I just did a full reinstall.

I've also tried 3 nVidia drivers (335.23, 337.88, 340.52) and it worked with none of them.

Anyway, here's the error:
Code: [Select]
Build AmericasArmy_Build_[2004-06-01_02.01.01]

OS: Windows NT 6.1 (Build: 7601)
CPU: GenuineIntel PentiumPro-class processor @ 2512 MHz with 4095MB RAM
Video: NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450    (3523)

General protection fault!

History: PreLoadObjects <- UObject::EndLoad <- UObject::StaticLoadObject <- (Engine.Level None.MyLevel Entry) <- LoadLevel <- UGameEngine::LoadMap <- UGameEngine::Init <- InitEngine <- FMallocWindows::Free <- FMallocWindows::Realloc <- 706D7564 0 FArray <- FArray::Realloc <- 0*2 <- FMallocWindows::Free

Anyone got any idea other than formating?

Chrome crashing? Probably hardware acceleration. Might try OCCT to check for errors on your GPU.
It's like shaving your pubes to make your junk look bigger.
Might look bigger, but it aint.....

OK, I downloaded something called OCCT, installed it and am now running it. What should I look for?

EDIT:
OCCT is giving me a lot of errors (for the program itself) and then it finally failed and stopped working altogether.

Have you tested unplugging it?

I thought about it, but I actually need it for work :D (although I do need chrome to work as well in order to get information).

I'll try that now, though.

EDIT
Interesting, the CE certainly changed:
Code: [Select]
Build AmericasArmy_Build_[2004-06-01_02.01.01]

OS: Windows NT 6.1 (Build: 7601)
CPU: GenuineIntel PentiumPro-class processor @ 2500 MHz with 4095MB RAM
Video: No Video

Can't find 'ini:Engine.Engine.GameEngine' in configuration file

History: UObject::SafeLoadError <- UObject::StaticLoadClass <- InitEngine <- FMallocWindows::Free <- FMallocWindows::Realloc <- 706D7564 0 FArray <- FArray::Realloc <- 0*2 <- FMallocWindows::Free

Well, after trying again without the soundcard, all is well apparantly.

I wonder what the problem is with it...

What do you mean by that? It's not really on PCI slot, as it's an external sound card connected with a USB that also acts as its power supply.

usb driver maybe outdated - connect the sound device and run an update. 1st windows one with all options, then maybe the soundcard drivers.

Can't really do much with the soundcard drivers it seems, can't even find the manufacturer's webpage...

And I don't really know what you mean by windows update for USB? I don't have any pending updates on windows update.

Right now I'm leaving this job for this week, but you guys can leave me a comment on how I might be able to fix it if you have the time.

Thanks in advance.

When drivers are coded right, they work right.
But when they're not, you wouldn't believe what a mess they can make.
