ok so i'm wondering why my game says no disc in the drive 5 minutes into playing a game and then freeze?

Make sure you don't have any usb devices plugged in, like a flash drive. If you don't, try inserting one you use and safely removing it through windows.

The problem is most likely:
a) Disk drive related
---> Insert a random CD
b) Flash drive related (you had a flashdrive and didn't remove it safely)
---> Connect the flash drive again and remove it safely this time (it might be specific to a USB port, I don't know).

You say you don't have a flash drive, but maybe someone still used on on your computer earlier? In any case, I'm sure you'd be able to find someone to borrow you a flash drive.
If you still have  a CD/DVD drive try inserting a random disk and playing that way.
