Assist on Windows 8.1
« on: Sunday, May 11, 2014, 06:07:06 AM »
I just got a new tablet/notebook and was trying to see if I could install Assist on it.

Here's the one I got:
http://www.asus.com/in-search-of-incredible/us-en/asus-transformer-book-t100/

Now I tried installing Assist and here's the result when trying to join a server:

Now I updated c++ as well as .net framework, but it's still the same. I also tried  updating my video drivers but they seemed to be up to date.

I also did reset+repair on Assist's Install tabs a couple of times (it downloaded new stuff but the problem persisted)

I always ran Assist as admin.
The same happens when I run armyops.exe separetely (as admin again).

The default is to run armyops.exe in compatibilty mode for Windows 7, but I also tried Windows XP compatibilty mode as well as without compatibility mode, always the same results.

I read up on the error and apparantly it's:
This error occurs when your application indirectly calls a pure virtual member function in a context where a call to the function is not valid. In most cases, the compiler detects this and reports the error when building the application. But depending on how your code is written, sometimes the problem is detected only at run-time.
The error occurs when you indirectly call a pure virtual function within the context of a call to the constructor or destructor of an abstract base class. This is illustrated in the sample code below, along with some more description.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help

Nice toy ;)

For the technical part, i think realbasic is not 100% compatible with 8.1... or ?

Assist works(RealBasic), but AA don't?

Is that correct?

My ultrabook came with Windows 8 and then I upgraded to 8.1 a few months back and haven't had any issues here.

teddy, make a full backup of your comp. then do install win 7 and look what happened.
I don't think this will help, but there is a little hope.

an other idea I do not have, sorry. strange.

Now I'm in the minority on this, thanks a lot guys! :D

Why would I install Windows 7 on my tablet? It's mainly a tablet so there's no point.

If it doesn't work, whatever, I wasn't gonna play on it anyway, was just curious. I barely even have enough room for it.

Well I copied the files from my main laptop and now the game works.

I'm guessing a complete reinstall would have had the same result, but I was too lazy to wait for the download.

The only problem I'm having is the punbuster restrictions issue, but I'll look into that later.

Hello,

Teddy, do you have the original AAO2.5?

If so, try installing and running that, just too check that the "tablet" will run AAO2.5, just so you know it is Assist rather then the game.

From my limited knowledge of tablets, when they are connected to a keyboard they are still a tablet not a fully operational pc/laptop.

Steve

Like I wrote, the game now works, both offline and online.

The only problem is the punkbuster restrictions kicks, which I've yet to deal wtih.

And no, I don't have any other games. Hell, I don't even have room for any others. It's only got 32GB of internal memory.
