2.5 on a Virtual Server?
« on: Wednesday, February 06, 2013, 14:01:12 PM »
Hi i want to run a 2.5 Server the cheapest way. And that would be a Virtual Server rented for about 5 € a month. I ran a Server on a 1.7 Ghz single Core Intel, 512 MB Ram, built in Graphics and 3 Mbit Internet and it worked well. So i think the Hardware is not the Problem. But about other things. OS and so on. Anyone knows more? Anyone did the same?

Thanks

1.7Ghz should not be enough to run a server with 26 slots, unless u have nothing else sucking resources but you can try, 512 is fine, wich OS?

Hi :)
I have VPS with 2x2.1GHz and 4 GB ram in ESXI virtualization(guaranteed resources), the assist using only 20% on 1 cores and ~400mb RAM but if you have budget VPS you must check the internet. I have good machines but the internet is shi* and players have PacketLosses.

You must check:
Type of virtualization
Internet provider and SLA

Hmmm maybe with 26 Players on 26 Slots it may get hard. But so for it worked perfectly.

So 1 Core, 512 Ram and 100Mbit netspeed would be enoungh. Thats good :-)

Hey Adrien it is just the other Server won´t give me Root Access anymore and we are all pissed and the Owner is ....lost in the Desert Gobi?

So we have to do something. And now i know what :-)

Thanks all

Remember
If you VPS have OpenVZ virtualization can have problems with lag by a large number of I / O operations on the disks on the mother machine.

i did not tell you this for a long time, because maybe not everybody likes what i will say now...

12 servers running on personal computer with less then 5% of cpu load.....true, not one problem at all.

Asus P7P55D
Intel Core i7 860, 2.8 GHz, 4C/8T
8 GB RAM DDR3-1333
Nvidia Geforce 8400 GS
Samsung 830, 256 GB SS-Device
Windows 7/64
Internet 2/20 GB (up/down)

max aa2-player on this system at one time: 72

used also as recording system, downloading server p2p, streaming server, NAS ...
so it has not to be up and running "only" for aa25assist, it runs anyway :)

cheers !

I i had a faster Internet Connection i will limit netspeed for 25server and let it server all day. An energy saver low budget computer and thats it. But too bad i live somewhere outthere (in german we say AM ARSCH DER WELT :-) so i won´t get faster Internet now so i need to rent a Server. To bad.

I will tell you when we did it. U can try then.

Adrien can have Admin Rights surely :-) ( No Risk No Fun )

Cya Guys and thanks for the Help!

I do not know all but
Pentium 4 cpu  3ghz
intern memory 3 GB
75 gb disk
down lode 6 gb  uplode 60 gb
4 servers but don t know what happend when all are full
1 server i know can handle 26 easy
Don t forget to delete your Punkbuster Screenshots when alot players are playing on your server.
if you do not have enuf space.
difficult part when you have server is you must have enuf beer and chips and nuts extra.
good luck whit server

To guarantee a smooth and lag less gameplay on your server you need for a full 16 player slot server a 1,5Ghz CPU, 512mb memory and 450kb/s upload speed. For a full 26 slot server you would need 3Ghz CPU, 1024MB memory and around 800kb/s upload speed. People with a low upload speed can change the MaxClientRate to 7000 or 8000 to need less upload speed.

Ah ok. Good to have this Community. It really helps to keep AAO 2 alive. BTW is there AAO 3?  :P

I got one other interesting thing. Now that i know more about hosting AAO2 on VPS it is time to think about a Control Panel. I found some Linux based. I don´t like to explain all my Clanmate how to use SSH and Commands. ;) SO i think a web based control Panel would be great. Does anyone of you use something like that? MERLIN you maybe?

Would be nice to have a AAO2.5 specific Control Panel btw. Ain´t there an open source Panel around we could modify for our needs?

Found those

We needed a few minutes to make one by ourself.A  basic webinterface for the ini.s + start/stop.No need to pay ;)

But from your list i would choose GameCreate.
