"Magic" glass, similar to the one from the door in the entrance on Hospital.

Something odd, portal zone info mess?

2 in one, in the pic i'm sitting on a handy camping place wire laundry which you can't see even in 1st person camera, looking from that side (on the other side it's visible). Easy to reach. Fixed -Killa

I also happened to get stuck in one of the stores showcases, it was the one close to the corner with a few mannequins in it (i don't have a pic of it tho). You can also reach or jump on several trees, but you might end up stuck. Fixed -Killa

Games & Programming / Humble Origin Bundle - 1$x6 - Games for Charity
« on: Thursday, August 15, 2013, 11:33:51 AM »
Origin has started a promotion along with the popular indie games promoter Humble Bundle, regarding 6+2 games that will be available for 14 days since August 14th. As for the previous Humble Bundles, the starting price for a valid set of Steam keys (and Origin keys, in this case) is one dollar for six games (Dead Space, Burnout Paradise, Crysis 2, Mirror's Edge, Dead Space 3 and Medal of Honor). By paying more than the average (which is currently around 4,8 dollars) you will also get Battlefield 3 and the Sims 3: Starter Pack.

Aside of a small fraction of it, which goes to the Humble Bundle itself, all of the money goes to charity (Human Rights Campaign, Watsi, San Francisco AIDS Foundation, American Cancer Society, American Red Cross). Of course, you can donate as much as you like, and eventually adjust the shares destinated to each charity fund.

Note: usually, Humble Bundles key come as a "pack" to prevent misuse or reselling of the single keys.

Have fun.

Games & Programming / Bioshock Infinite [screenshots inside]

I'm falling in love with the art.

It really looks and feels like they've put effort and passion to create some kind of early '900 atmosphere...in the air.
So far it is really enjoyable, the plot doesn't manage to suprise me but seems fairly interesting and the visual are quite amazing.

Left click on the screens to enlarge (or right click and just open them in a new tab - they're slightly compressed so image quality isn't top notch).

Games & Programming / Do you play games other than America's Army?
« on: Friday, April 12, 2013, 15:14:27 PM »
So, out of curiosity, i was wondering which kind of games you people play (other than America's Army of course ).
I mostly play Killing Floor, along with a few other games (mostly old games or discount games). I love cooperative gameplay and such :)

Feel free to share your Steam profile if you have one.

I'm aware of the people that usually browse this forum being AA-savy gamers, but in case you also enjoy other shooters, you might get a pick at one among the best post-apocaliptic games of the last years.

The only thing you'll need is a Facebook account and willingness to click on the "like" button.

mAAp Project / Promoting mAAp maps and some other official maps
« on: Sunday, September 30, 2012, 16:48:40 PM »
It's pretty much obvious that at this time most of the mAAp maps and many of the official maps aren't played nearly anymore. While it doesn't take off the gameplay itself, it surely takes off of variety. And lack of variety is what ultimately drives to boredom. It's much healthier to have a certain amount of players that play different maps than a handful of those that will only jump on a single map which they're terribly fond of, because the former will most likely keep on playing even if their favorite map is not available (and in the end that is the key to have a good average amount of players during the day).

So, considering that there are some worthy maps (mAAp Pipeline, Breakout, Rummage, Sandstorm, JRTC Farm Raid, etc) that aren't played at all, i think there might be some things that could be done to improve the variety, by promoting those against the majority of the few that gets over-regularly played every single day.

Among the first things that might be effective, hitting hardcore as much as newer players, might be points assignment: we can decide the amount of points assigned for each map and especially for each objective, so we could easily increase the amount of points given once completing a round successfully (not just by standing idle) in those maps. Of course the difference shouldn't higher than about 30% to 40% in comparison to others maps, to give a premium but not to create a huge inequality.

Some other ideas might be assigning badges or achievements in a Steam way, which already was a feature of the former America's army profile when the website was still online (the Jacket).

Any other ideas you'd throw in?

Miscellaneous / 1970's Fiat-Uk advertising
« on: Sunday, September 09, 2012, 07:14:02 AM »
I was looking around on the web for a car manual, and i've found this ad (likely a magazine ad) by Fiat Uk. It's a 1970's one and most likely came after the 1973 fuel crisis...i think it's both bold and funny ^^ especially considering how ugly the Strada/Ritmo actually looks.

So, this was the Strada look, upfront.

This was the even uglier US version, featuring "special" crash absorbers i think.

Media & Art / Evel Knievel BBC's documentary - legend of a daredevil
« on: Tuesday, September 04, 2012, 17:38:03 PM »
I don't know whether or not you people ever heard of this guy (he was a famous stunter back in the 70's) but i've just found this BBC's documentary which pretty much depicts the character (a man who gave all to his passion, or rather to create a legend).

Back in 2007 when this filmed he was still holding memories, and faith to his own legend, lesser so to his physical state.

(The documentary is a complete version of the actual tv show that was aired in 2007).

The Lounge / AA 3.3 quality- Airfield, AI, and...respawning
« on: Saturday, June 30, 2012, 17:45:50 PM »
I think 1 image would be better than thousand words.

First screen - a corner from the "new" map Airfield from America's Army 3

Second screen - a shoot from mAAp Pipeline, America's Army 2.

Both screens taken at maximum quality, there's a difference in terms of screen resolution but as you can guess that Airfield terrain texture looks as vomit even at 1024x768.

Basically they've thrown in a couple meshes, ugly textures and no care for detail at all. While there are a few containers and some very small buildings to move along, the layout feels very straight. Interiors are barely fitted with any furniture. Last but not least, this map introduces AI and therefore a certain grade of Coop gameplay along with...respawning  . When you get incapacited and won't be able to move, you'll be able to choose if calling for a medic (and wait for him to get to you) or choose the "Medevac" option and basically you'll respawn, during the match, so you'll be able to keep on fighting no matter what O.o .

So, looking at those images Airfield still miss:
- a barely decent lighting;
- static mesh models that can actually resemble a game from 2009 and not one from early 2000.
- well, something that can make the map more realistic (it's officially described as an "abandoned airfield"). Abandoned doesn't sound as right as barely worked on.

mAAp Project / SF Hospital improvements
« on: Sunday, May 06, 2012, 18:27:40 PM »
While taking off a few bugs i reported earlier ( http://aao25.com/maap/official-maap-v7-bug-reporting-thread/msg21383/#msg21383 ) by setting up player collision blocks i was thinking that there are a few objects and areas (like cars, trucks, and hospital furniture) that might benefit from a smoother, more natural collision to improve the feeling and actually make things feel smoother to move onto/nearby. What's your take?

*To clarify that for the lesser interested about technical matters of the game, player blocks collision are non-visible objects that can be placed to ease collision of otherwise multi-faceted objects. This doesn't modify the gameplay, nor it modifies any visuals, but adds a more refined layer to the physical world (briefly, helps taking movement chunkiness out).

Miscellaneous / Paper filter modding to air filter - scooter
« on: Sunday, April 08, 2012, 06:33:08 AM »
So, as the title already explains, i'm wondering if its actually possible to switch paper with foam in the air filter. The scooter has a (125cc) electronic injected engine, so my guess is that it's gonna adjust itself for the different amount of air coming in from the filter (foam should let it "breath" easier than paper). The obvious advantage is that a foam filter is easier to replace and/or clean when dirty (it also has bigger holes tho, as paper has much tighter fiber holes which in fact makes for a different air flow).

The Lounge / How much abuse can a Toyota Hilux bear?
« on: Sunday, March 18, 2012, 17:55:36 PM »
Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond from Uk's Top Gear manage to get a Toyota Hilux through a series of use and abuse. I can't honestly believe the didn't changed a single spare part, but it's still funny to watch.

General Chat / Server settings and logs spam
« on: Sunday, March 11, 2012, 07:25:10 AM »
I took a look at the Hacking Alerts log and it seems in the last few days it has been spammed by 2 precise servers

79.180.23.154  Dawn Of The Dead Team Honor + Tracked

 79.194.58.66 -WKS- Minenfeld -[SF]-Server-[GER]-

They filled up half of the log, with dozens of Antipoke mismatches and such. Along with Stemelex alerts.

Games & Programming / ThrottleStop - to avoid your laptop cpu throttling
« on: Monday, February 20, 2012, 16:08:15 PM »
So, been using this little tool for months and thought many other people might find it useful. It has been around since when Intel started making use of throttling in his laptop cpu.

You surely have times when you don't need no cpu power at all, or vice versa you want all the pure power without hassles and interruption: this tool does it for you, stopping the continous dynamic adjustment typical of latest Intel cpu's. This usually helps avoid sudden hitching of all those apps that use 1 core only (who said AA?).

Of course a continous use of your cpu at full speed will make temperature rise, if your laptop cooling system is inadequate as it often happens for cheap laptops and low end systems. Therefore, try to understand that it is a risk you're  taking on your own (laptop). In every case, i would suggest you to use Speedfan -> http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php
