I see it as an alternative. I can find something that stock-wise is probably better than XP, then modify it to improve its performance. Kind of like race cars.

Plus no one goes anywhere if you can't modify the OS in someway. Then we would be on Macintosh and Windows 3.1 with improvements in hardware only. That would be ...... fucking stupid =D

But I guess for benchmarking, clean installs on the same hardware, with warm-up time is best way to go. We need controlled tests in order to improve our shit. Unfortunalty, everyone seems to be stupid and doesn't know what 'controlled experiment' means.

Anything has bias in it, let Jonny have his list. Of course everyone's list would look different.

Ooh, I think it would be cool if you add little 24x24 images of OS's next to each program instead of [Windows Only] or [Cross Platform]. ;-)

I've had an older version of ubuntu (Maybe 8.04) on one stick of 256MB before. It seemed to run fine.  :)

I kind of expect most OS's to run well on at least 128MB of 262.5 MHz RAM. I've got another computer in the house built from garbage that runs XP on that actuallly =D

I'm slowly gaining the will-power to post about that. When I do, I'm sure you'll add stuff since I learned from you :)

Yea, this stuff is fun, you learn a lot =D

I can run XP on a VM on a 128MB stick so........... =)

But then again, every version of XP I test is modded heavily.

I think that Windows 7, like XP, still has a dynamic usage of RAM. Meaning, if you have more RAM, it'll use it, if you have less RAM it'll use less. So obviously values won't be consistent among different levels of RAM.
