The Lounge / Lazy Lads Are Being Called Out!
« on: Wednesday, May 19, 2010, 22:50:56 PM »
From time to time, I will consciously put some thought into what we could do with Headshot to make it a better/more interesting place. Apparently, as we had the opportunity to realise in previous discussions, we all sink towards the same thinking; "What now?" --We have all been hanging together for great while and that's been great fun. I was seventeen/eighteen when most of you first spoke to me. I am 21 now. You make the math.

Not only do we have the cheer will and drive to do something, as we also have the talent. I consider myself active in the art field, as I'm constantly trying to improve my skills and keeping a regular pace so that I never get rusty and take on a loss of skill. I do slack down sometimes, but not as often as I do otherwise. Dennis suggested a T-Shirt business. It was a nice idea, but hardly doable without being too much of a burden to either me or Dennis himself; as we are probably the most knowledge in Photoshop within the community.

I defy you all to bring forth the goodness of brainstorming. Go for it. Chill some ideas on your head and share them up. If we end up coming with a good idea and decide to take it as a project, better even! It would be great to have the old fellas reuniting now, wouldn't it?

You know you want it.

The Lounge / Visual Language vs. Subject
« on: Wednesday, April 07, 2010, 12:48:31 PM »
This is a book I am writing and is mostly based on the per-misses contemplated between Visual Language and the Subject. The reason why I felt inspired to write about this is mostly due to the fact that almost everyone is trying to copy work from someone else these days, and leave almost no space to being themselves in what they do. More than having good replicas, we should have good innovation; I believe.

Visual Language vs. Subject

We learn to talk; to express ourselves through words. We learn the alphabet, the sound of each letter, the sound of different words, the looks of the zillions words we are given access to, the meaning of the least and the meaning of the most, the punctuation and how it affects our dialogue, the big and the small, the representation of each ---and yet, we never truly understand what language it is that we convey our thoughts through. Blind belief and be-damned purity, is what we trust the most and more often, when ever we act and attach.

Why are we not all made poets, then? Simple. Communication can not go without feelings. If you are not what you write, then what you write will never resemble or belong to you. It will exist, and reach the superficial floating mind and essence of the others, but it will never truly establish a connection; a bound.

The key to communication; --thus expression, affection, and reaction-- is to remain true to the truth of your being. You might be wondering: How does this connect to art, or graphic designing, or visual expression as per say? It does not; or rather --it might, or it might not-- depending on the way you look at it, and read it through. Read the words as if they were yours. Flatter them with your immense --that is you.

All humans create and are created.
All creations are unique and universal.
Therefore, all humans are unique and universal.

Hold that in you. Hold the thought that we are, in many ways, equally different. Even if we both use the same red colour, the same white outline; we will forever reach an equality through a different ---and very exclusive--- process. In our days, nothing is new anymore, besides what lives being. And what is that? It's you - it's me - it's us - it's them - It's what you allow others to see and how different that vision is for each person. The principle to understanding Visual Language is in the act of trusting that for every person, you will always be different, yet always the same.

P.S:. The next article/ continuation of will talk about the three keys to communication --expression, affection and reaction-- more profoundly. The introduction about Visual Language is, for logistic reasons, initially associated with the subject. We'll go from talking about and with you to talking through and with you and finish with talking about, through and to the others. I hope you enjoy the reading and allow yourself to live this experience open-wide.

Feedback appreciated.

Media & Art / [Discussion] Colour vs. BW Photography
« on: Monday, April 05, 2010, 06:58:50 AM »
As a curious lad, I am interested in knowing whether you like colour over BW, or the other way around. If it is not asking much, I would also like you to explain what interests you more, and how heavily that may or may not affect your preference towards either. If I see interest arise in the subject at hand, I might as well turn this onto a more profound discussion addressing some key differences between colour and BW and how Photography itself tends to affect our vision of the world.

As for me; I can't quietly pick one over the other and let it pass under without pinning out that:
Colour ---is photography played as a game of density and visually-attended emotion vibrancy.
BW ---is photography circumstanced as a game of forms, existence vs. null, act vs. react.

With that in mind, the decision of either is bound to relate to your character, almost fully. Which ever option you en-glad the most, will always give away a bit of yourself. Personally, I think it's good that it does. Having that said, and time running out of my fists, my pick would have to go with Black and White, I am afraid.

Off to your side lads, off'em go.

"
In my head, Freedom.

In my head,
blazing through,
never as dead,
I will be, for you.

In your head,
senseless as ever,
I shall be a drag,
as such is intense fever.

In our heads,
though remainfull,
as have others said,
will we, in love, be fools.

In their heads,
titling seemingly,
as close as ahead,
we are, at once, free."

"
Nature Cycles

from that blue sky,
your immense vast affairs,
from that sea blue sky,
you make me, yours, in flesh.

from that red dirt,
your wishes sang are,
from that blood red dirt,
you will, through me, roar!

from that green air,
your pain surrenders ingreed,
from that blazing green air,
you have, with me, shred a tear.

from that white time,
your senses are left to adorn,
from that aging white time,
you do, in hopes, shine for more?"

Feedback & Suggestions / Art "Department"
« on: Tuesday, February 09, 2010, 13:31:53 PM »
Would it be worth to bring some art-related articles, discussions and topics of interest to this forum? For a while now, I have always felt like the subject of this forum is greatly leaning towards computing "science". Whereas I don't mind that at all, I do think --in order for HsC! to grow bigger, fit to more people, and spread in word likewise-- it needs to be about more. Granted, there is an element belonging to this community that belongs to its own. Moreover, if we ignore the presence/posts of certain members, the forum's content is actually nitrated with a consistent amount of maturity, valid arguments and --even-though mostly in pointless discussions-- a sense of track, action and will to be eminent in the act of changing. In all honesty, this is what makes me pick this forum over all the several other hundreds around the internet. I am sure they all have their own qualities; I just prefer to be with my mates instead.

Either way, this sounds like it might have been an attempt to self-justify the thought of creating an art-dedicated corner around here.

What do you guys reckon should happen?

By the way:

I have been in love for that piece.
For the curious, Suprematism-era.

Game Reviews / The Saboteur
« on: Saturday, January 30, 2010, 23:44:25 PM »

Basically, you are an Irish lad roaming around Paris, France. You and France's Resistance share a similar hatred for Nazis, and so you decide to brutally erase them out of Paris. The whole game resolves around Sex, Alcohol, Dealers and killing Nazis --being the latest one of the most intensive aspects of the game. Image-wise, I am somewhat speechless. The artwork is simply amazing, the feel of "belonging to the past" was pretty well nailed and even-though the game doesn't have the best 3D treatment, it still looks magnificent! Music-wise, it's very jazzy and bluesy alike --with some of the very well known classics going on, as well as tunes people might not be familiar with, although still being great in their own ways.

In a way, this game is a mix between GTA and Assassin's Creed ---as you can also roam around the city, climb buildings, perform stunts, etc.

I love every aspect of this game. Really worthy the money.

Games & Programming / iPad, latest Apple's release.
« on: Saturday, January 30, 2010, 23:19:42 PM »
I know this doesn't rank as "Software-based", but I like to think this board exists for all kind of Mac-related things, in a way.

I am sure some of you have heard about it, some others have dug further on the subject, and others are simply clueless.

Apple released their new invention, the iPad --the mobile device connecting the average phone and the laptops (their words, exactly!)

Check this link:
http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/10/01/27/hands_on_with_apples_ipad_with_videos_and_photos.html

And check Apple's website, as well, if you want to read/view more.

I'd like to hear your guys's thoughts on this. Quite personally, the only reason I'd see myself using one of those would certainly be portfolio-related. For example, I could own a desk-computer laying down at my place, and carry one of these to showcase my work in interviews and as such. Apart from the showcasing-factor, that is very less ---or even nothing--- that would justify spending the hundreds on that for.

Quite frankly, I am disappointed at Apple's "progress".

Have you done anything for / inspired in HsC!? If so, post it here and we'll re-edit this post with your entry.

Don't be afraid to post your failures as well. It's with them you'll learn to get better :)

Off we go, shall we?
