General Chat / Re: America's Army 2 Remake - Army Ops in development
« on: Friday, October 20, 2017, 14:29:31 PM »
Very interesting. If you're serious and say "pretty please" you might get ELiZ's permission to use the maps he converted from UE2 to UE4 for AAPG. Import the assets, re-organize how you want and modify how you want. That would be the easiest way to get maps and gameplay up quickly.

Here's the honest problem though, it's one that's been around since AA2 came out. The AA community HATES change. Even minor changes to maps that they love will make the players riot in the streets. There is no possible way for you to get the gameplay, feel, pace, sound exactly the same as AA2, nor would you want to. On this merit alone, I doubt anyone here would play it. It's the sad truth. Having been part of the custom map scene on AA for close to a decade now, I find it very difficult to get people off of SF Hospital long enough to play a few good rounds on a great custom map. Something like 70% of the official maps don't get played even. The hardcore AA players have a particular mindset that makes them play 2-4 maps in a particular way. They have their favorite weapons, glitches, camp spots and tactics and often don't branch out from that behavior. Even in the official AA versions themselves, you saw lots of people hanging on to old versions because they didn't like the slight changes in maps and gameplay brought in the newer releases.

I really hate to dissuade you, but rather caution you as to going after this community with a "new and improved America's Army" because you're not going to convince AA players to jump to your game. Approach it as if you were creating a new game with your favorite memories from AA but still something new. Also, don't take the hate from the AA community to heart. There's a lot of assholes and they feel like their opinion matters.

On a personal note, it would be fun to help but I failed horribly with UE4 and don't have the time or computer to do anything worthwhile.

1. You need to say what it is to get anybody interested.
2. Language absolutely does matter.

That moment when I forgot Killaman does codey things. He totally asked me on Facebook if I knew anyone that coded and I was like "nah".

Teddy is 100% spot on.

Vanoke, believe me, I know it's fun to edit and create maps. Problem is, custom 3rd party maps have not been widely adopted enough to encourage creators to stay long term. It's been over 10 years. They weren't even that widely adopted when the map editor was public for v2.8.x. People played them and the Mission Editor Depot (or whatever it was) had a lot of maps, it pales in comparison to the number of people on Bridge or Urban Assault. Even new maps that the AA devs brought out in later versions showed this phenomenon as well. I hate to break it to you but, next to nobody will care about your map edits. I applaud you for learning how and having fun in the process but don't expect the playerbase to share your enthusiasm and certainly don't expect your edits to "save the game". I've made that mistake before.

AA Support / Re: G 15 Key board
« on: Tuesday, March 28, 2017, 13:00:29 PM »
Some people are still using the Intellimouse, just because the shape works for them. Imho peripherals like keyboards and mice should be buyed based on ergonomy and build quality rather than features, unless you happen to need macros for a particular scenario (like video editing or such).
^^ This.

My Logitech G5 died unexpectedly after a couple years and I happened to have a wireless Intellimouse laying around. Ran that for a couple years out of laziness. Now, out of laziness I have a Logitech M510. Ergonomics are most important. If you need a keyboard/mouse with tons of macro keys, fancy lights and other marketing wank bullshit to play good, you're doing it wrong.

I've not used one but I'm pretty sure they are meant to. They can be submerged as well so there's no needing to prime the system or have hassle.

You're only talking 250 gallons, that's not much. I'd imagine a sump pump would do the trick.

Doing my usual weekly lurk around here and it suddenly hit me, the Seke clan logo looks like a half-assed swastika. Anyone else see that?

Glad to see the childish behavior hasn't left the AA community.

Memory issue, CPU overheating, GPU overheating, bad drivers... who knows.

Start with doing all the Windows updates. I can tell you haven't because you have IE 8 installed.

Drama & Spam / Message request on Facebook fail... Sorry Pit :(
« on: Monday, January 16, 2017, 19:04:13 PM »
Out at lunch today I saw on my phone I had 2 message requests pop up from Facebook Messenger. One was a customer and the other was in the "filtered" category. Never heard of that, must be their spam category?

Anywho... looks like I'm a bit late in seeing the message. Facebook sucks for this, I had the same thing happen to a customer and I didn't see their message request for months despite having both Facebook and Messenger on my phone. Sorry Pit :(

Hardware/Software / Re: New pc build

I just noticed the Corsair Spec 03...looks roomy aswell and it also comes with 3 120 case fans.

Costs a few more euros but might be worthy, considering the hardware.

Eh, whatever floats your boat. I'm more of a simplistic man. Just be warned, fans that come with cases aren't that great. I've had to replace some not long after building.

If you can get the Corsair Carbide 200R, do it. Those are my favorite budget builds. I've got the 300R and it's very roomy, I can just about put anything in it.

Go with 1151 and DDR4. There's not much of a price difference and there hasn't been for a while (at least here in the states).
Stay with the SSD, mine is 128GB and even though I fight it, I still enjoy it. 240/250/256GB would be great, unless you plan to load up Skyrim or GTA5.
