Most of the hackers were probably not everyday players anyway, I bet they'd just hop on every now and then and use their cheats to feel good about themselves.

Assist can do whatever they want, but they have to be careful with what they do. You can't just do whatever you'd like, you have to bear the opinion of your target audience in mind. If I think I have a solid reason to ban someone (in my opinion) from MY server that I pay for and somebody from the development team is forcing me to allow that person to play because they received a little bag of money is ridiculous.
I agree. There should be no reason that the Assist admins should be able to say who you can and cannot ban from your server.
I mean, on your own server you can ban people for various reasons, from excessive (and intentional) TKing to extremely hostile/rude behavior towards others in the server, from exploiting bugs to disrespecting server rules. Now if the admins said you couldn't ban this "ex"-cheater, he'd be at an advantage compared to any regular legit player.
And since usually you're allowed to ban players on your own server, most server admins would probably ban the known "ex"-cheaters.

I'm pretty sure everyone here understand the noble idea of giving this project some much needed cash, but IMHO having cheaters paying to play again is not something that would work.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere in these forums that all the ex-cheaters were given a second chance when auth went down and Assist was the only way to play this game (with other people).

The story there seems so plausible.

"I was playing and someone was hacking. Then, since I had my own cheat ready for use in the other folder (or w/e), I decided to outcheat him!"

It's a scripting program, that allows to create all kinds of macros and different kind of scripts that are activated (usually) by a press of a button.

But for as much as I've read, the scripts can be quite complicated and even replicate a sort of aimbot (correct me if I'm wrong, to whoever really knows this stuff).

Feedback & Suggestions / Re: [Poll] Banning Policy...
« on: Tuesday, November 12, 2013, 01:57:44 AM »
One problem I have yet to solve is how to prevent abuse and keep the votes in 1 location. If we start a poll here, Assist would have to pass the vote to AAO25. Those more devious than I could likely find ways to abuse my code as I'm not a master of PHP. Another problem is that ELiZ mentioned it's easy to render a webpage in Assist but interacting with it is another story. A vote could be submitted via $_[GET] but again, this leaves potential for abuse. We would have to find some way of passing the BTID to make votes unique. The logistics of voting in Assist will prove to be a hassle. Not that it can't be done, it's just a matter of doing it properly.

An easy solution might be to just omit AAO25 from polls and people vote in Assist and the votes stay on the auth server. It would be nice to have interaction with AAO25 though.
I'd guess the vote could stay on the auth server, but the vote on Assist could have a link to the forum topic, which has the discussion (not necessarily the votes).

I'm pretty sure you agree to it when installing and pressing "I accept". If you don't like Assist taking screenshots of the dirty/suspicious players, don't install it.

It's not a matter of how, it just happens. I've had shit like that happen to me, too. You just teleport forward and get to places before others.

Are you sure you're playing the training through Assist? Because you since the US army stopped support for this game, the "Save Results" button doesn't work, there's just no server to send the data to.

To do trainings through Assist, start 25Assist and then go to "TRAINING" tab:
If you haven't done any trainings yet, press on the yellow "Available" next to "Makrsmanship Training".
If you have done some trainings, press on the first yellow "Available" button below the green "Complete"(or "Comp 40/40" for Marksmanship).

Having started the training, just follow the instructions it gives you before pressing "OK"
As it tells you, after you've finished a training, you don't need to press the "Save Results" button, just exit the game.

Rinse and repeat.

Note that you have to complete the whole first group (Level 1: Basic Training), that is 4 trainings to be able to play at all.
Additional trainings open up additional maps and weapons and also the ability to heal your teammates.

I'm pretty sure there was a more thorough thread about how high ping doesn't affect the other players somewhere in these forums.

But I do agree, like said before, that it can make the person a bit harder to kill in those teleportation scenarios and that mostly it just makes for the guy with high ping to kill anyone else (from bullets taking ages to register all the way to throwing frags from a position you were at a few seconds ago).

Well I was sharing your point on latency not affecting other players connection with the server, if you read my post.

BUT. You clearly don't understand what I'm talking about ping.
You see, the game gives 2 different values for the same ping. One you see yourself, and the other is seen by anyone else. The one you see yourself is always 4 times bigger than the one everyone else sees. I don't know when they changed it, buy I'm pretty sure there used to be a time you could always see the bigger one, even on other players.

And you're definitely talking about the on divided by 4, because the distance between Austraila(you) and Germany(the server) is ~14500km, at the speed of light that can be traveled in about 48ms, but since ping is considered the round-trip from the messenger to the server and back, the minimum your ping could theoretically be would be around 96ms.

I'm pretty sure the 75 ping you have vs the 100 everyone "used to have" is quite a different story.

You others see your ping as 4 times smaller than you do. So when others see yours at 75, if you could see it, it would be 300. But since the game doesn't show you pings over 250 (in my experience), when you look at it, it just seems to go from 250 to 0 or vice versa.

And I think I remember the time when everyone just saw the higher one whether they were looking at their own ping or someone else's (I could be wrong here tho).

But for as much as I've read here (and elsewhere), your ping on a server will not affect anyone else (except when shooting at you, that's when some strange shit might happen).

Why is this topic dragging on and on? He thrives on debates and arguments, you all know this by now and yet you just keep feeding him like pouring gasoline on a fire.
I'm pretty sure if you closed this thread, he'd make at least 2 more (1 to continue this and 1 to accuse the admins of whatever he thinks they'd be responsible of).

Some admins can be ban/kick/mute-happy. You just gotta learn to live with it or leave their server.
