Server Support / Re: Battletracker service will be shutdown forever soon
« on: Sunday, January 14, 2018, 10:34:50 AM »
Pretty sad to see it go though there may be some plus sides to it.

- Single source for account registration meaning users now sign up on aao25. (easier process = more new players)
- We'll have controll over more account related things i.e clan tags, names, characters, map tracking (some maps weren't recognised) ect.

Copyright is really the main thing here. However there are means around it.

For instance posting on social media (posting on our facebook page, twitter google + ect), community gaming forums with links back to here and message boards (i.e reddit: /r/aao25) l will help get traffic through as well as improving our standings with search engines.

Another alternate is finding download sites, FPS toplists ect. (via google search) that host the old AAO files or content related to America's army 2. Send them an email or message informing them official support for America's Army 2 has been dropped however, a community developed deploy program called AAO25 is now used to allow users install, update and play the game as well as a server browser and the ability to track in game stats including map stats, playtime and fragrates.

Let them know the standalone windows installer is approx 5-6mb allowing them to save significant space and bandwidth by hosting our installer and most of them should be happy to scratch our back.

I'm sorry if I'm mistaken, but why would you pay so much for a server? You can get a 26 slot server for 26€/month

That would be the cost of racking a physical server up in a DC (or leasing a dedicated box from a dc). Over in Aus these things are unfortunetly pretty expensive.

Give the poor guys a go remember they are doing this for free....

General Chat / Re: Alot old players don t know about 25Assist!
« on: Monday, November 19, 2012, 22:13:49 PM »
Seems like a good idea if we have access to that sort of thing. Basically address players that have been active in the last X amount of years receive a message detailing this site/TWL ladders ect.

Don't forget to take into account that the top lists haven't been updated in a  while....

General Chat / Re: i suck! how does one play better?
« on: Tuesday, May 29, 2012, 23:01:59 PM »
Just a few that helped me back in the day:

- Watch the more experienced players when you die. Learn their spots/tricks/tactics on the maps and try them yourself you'll pick up alot doing this.

- Youtube some nade strats for the more popular maps (urban, Bridge) really good way to pick up some cheap kills.

- Don't be afraid to flash someone is this version! they actually work (unlike 2.8 +)

- Aim High; It takes 4 or 5 bullets if you hit a player in the leg but only 2 or 3 in the chest (or 1 if you hit them in the head)

- Move around the map; if you fire a shot at someone, chances are someone heard it and they'll come looking.

- try and play or servers locally to you. Pretty much if you have a ping of 50+ (as displayed in game) or 190-200 (what it actually is) it makes it pretty difficult to actually kill someone regardless of how accurate you are.

If you are running windows try port forwarding the required ports in the windows firewall. (1716, 1717 UDP)

After you have done that, under "server control"

- hit options
- tick "bind server instance to a single IP address"
- Select the servers external IP address (if you are unsure on your server visit this link:b http://whatismyipaddress.com/)

He's right in the fact you do have to develop websites for computer illiterate people.

Think you guys have done an great job of that :P

The only thing i could suggest is possibly footer links and/or a download link in the menu list up the top to help with navigation and thats if your being picky...

The Lounge / Re: trying to get server up
« on: Thursday, March 29, 2012, 08:04:27 AM »
ok I rented a server through game servers and for some reason i cant get it to come online for others to play in and i have registered it on battle tracker  any ideas im not the greatest computer guy but i can find my way through with some direction and any ideas would be great   ty

Gameservers don't support 2.5assist so it would be a 2.85 server. If your planning on logging in through the 2.5assist browser your going to have a hard time...

We have made aware it exists to everyone in Australia how about you do the same in your respective countries by posting on forums ect as we did.

Cats theres only a post on CG & only recently did i get on Got Games/Game Areana. Thing we should try and hit up some NZ gaming forums as well see if we can spread the word that way.

Do you have any contact with any of the administrators for the Aus AA Xfire group? Would love to get the message out to some older players.

Still believe the best way to gain new players is through google & other search engines.

That's what the Assist dedicated binary does. It runs and does all the necessary communication and launches the AA server. Did you read the readme for it?

Yeah i have spanky more curious to see if that were possible as it would make life alot easier for hosting companies to set up multiple instances. That would surely be a good thing for the game.

Hmm is there any way you could modify the server file structure forcing it to authenticate through your server or add a command to the server configuration like game spy do to authenticate the server?

It would be some form of routing issue spanky :)

Thanks for the help.

Basically the server won't appear int he browser when i try and initialize it through a bat file.

Works just fine when i launch a server through 2.5 assist. However on our Sydney boxes i can't get it to authenticate players when they join a server. This may have more to do with our IP/Ip-range being null-routed in the US due to our GMOD servers.
