The one thing I will say is that sound is SUPER important in AA. Hell, you can hear people clear across maps sometimes. It's also very much a twitchy shooter. Aim training will help. The rest is just positioning. Like most competitive FPS games knowing where to be given the information you've been given in the round is hugely important. This is really only something you can develop with practice.

Hi and thanks for your response.
you're right, there was a pop-up. I actually didn't ignore it, I guessed my old Macbook would be "old enough" - it's 2013.
I got another one, an even older one, but I can't boot it unfortunately. :(

Unfortunately the "mac support" for AA is PowerPC macs, but if your mac is from 2013 it's almost certainly an Intel mac. You can bootcamp Windows to run the game.

General Chat / Re: How can i download AA 2.5 on Apple M3 Max Sequoia 15.4

I have a macbook m3 and a windows VM for some applications for work so figured would give it a try for ya last night.

Downloaded the 25Assist client, opened it which had me login then started downloading the files.

Once done was able to connect to the first server I double clicked:

Playing in window'd mode on the VM but running latest macos etc, runs super smooth with no issues I could see.

I snagged this laptop last year due to the insane battery life, can go over 15 hours on a full charge which is great for me always being on the go and cannot recommend enough. Rarely use the windows VM aside from a few old applications I use occasionally but overall works great.
That's awesome, thanks for testing it out!
I also have an M3 MBP, but it's a work laptop.

Shows what I know. Never played this on a Mac. But I do recall the issues coming about regarding the inability to load the game when Catalina came around in 2019.

So I suppose the compatibility layer we'd be looking for was Rosetta 1 - to allow it to work on x86 after having been built for the PowerPC versions of MacOS.
Though given that they dropped that in 2011, it's weird that I don't really recall seeing major issues with newer Macs well before the Catalina release. Though it's somewhat less surprising given I joined the team in 2014 (had to look this up, by the way!)...

Regardless, I believe my point that this is going to be hard if not impossible will still stand. But just with an extra step of hard...
Yeah I wasn't trying to correct you in any way, I'm just a HUGE computer hardware nerd and I find all of it fascinating.
I think we didn't receive many complaints around mac for the simple reason that it was always an extreme niche. 99.99% of people playing games on PC are on Windows.

It would be awesome to get it running on the new M series Macs. The hardware is super cool, even if I hate the OS.

I'm pretty sure there's a massive disclaimer when you're attempting to download the 25Assist client for a Mac. It won't work on any new or newish Mac.
The Mac support AA 2.5 had isn't even compatible with old Intel Macs, it's for even older PowerPC macs. a CPU architecture that has been dead on the desktop since around 2005 when Apple ditched it for Intel and x86.

NICK!!! How ya been brotha, hopefully good. life has been very eventful for me, haha,

PLAY!!!! I'm getting all the bob clan to come back and play as well. I'll be on later on tonight.

Alex, i don't quite remember who you are. but that don't mean anything lmao.
As teddy said, I used to go by KiLLaMaN. It was a dumb name I created as a teen so I decided to change it a while ago. I spent way too many nights on the iL team speak with you, zork, monkey, zeta, hooters, and all of the crew. Some really fun times. The golden years of NA AA in my opinion. :P

Feedback & Suggestions / Re: Ban Standardization
« on: Friday, February 28, 2025, 03:56:25 AM »
You use shoutbox as an example, yet the same person I mentioned (bumpy) talks shit in there, and numerous people have previously posted in that shoutbox what he has said in-game. Where's the concern on that one?

I used a recent and controversial ban as an example. Additionally, you both casually omitted the part where the "victim" said joe didn't need to be banned.
Then show us. If we've missed something bad by all means call us out. We can only act on what we actively see and we can't see everything. You should absolutely expect us to do better just as we expect everyone to be better. This isn't some us vs them, we're all AA players and we all want this community to thrive.
On another note, we don't give a fuck if the "victim" says a player should be unbanned. We observe behavior and act accordingly.
It's especially troubling when I received many complaints from the victim and now all of a sudden they want to walk is all back? Nah. We looked at the behavior and decided it was worth a ban. We also discussed a second chance but his antics in the shoutbox made it apparent he hasn't changed.

Is AA still alive? who's running the show now? It is still Nick??

It's still the same usual suspects that it was last time you were playing. :P
Glad to see you're still kicking around and hopefully we can play together sometime soon!

Just echoing what Hellboy  said, we have no ability to monitor in-game chat. If you see something, please report it. Joe has been posting vile shit in the shoutbox, which we can see. If you have any issues of players harassing others in-game please take a screenshot and report it.

As  much as some of the player base would like to believe otherwise, AA2 is and always was meant to be enjoyed by everyone. Nobody should feel unsafe or harassed for simply playing a game.

Edit: And since joe is such a controversial subject, even without using him as an example the issue of using admin discretion is still present. If you're going to ban for speech, provide a set of rules so there is a clear delineation of what is allowed or restricted.
As Hellboy said (in much more professional terms than I will use here)
Just don't be a fucking asshole. That's it. Do not harass others, do not use slurs. Is this really needed to be specified? This is basic human decency and if you can't follow it you have much bigger problems than being banned in a 20 year old game.

I don't seem to have any record of a donation from this account. When did you donate and what account did you use?

You were literally posting slurs in the shoutbox last month. If you're actually trying to get unbanned you're doing a pretty bad job at it.

Let Spanki go. He's been watching his own interests all his life.
if MothaGoosE knows how to set the hospital again at 203--let him go!!

Even if someone could update the map to add 203, actually getting the update out through Assist is another ordeal.

Ban Appeals / Re: Please consider unbanning Joe131

I also just want to be clear here. We don't care if it technically meets the definition of doxxing or not, it's very fucked up all the same and we're punishing the action of what he did, completely independent of any definition.

Ban Appeals / Re: free me
« on: Monday, September 30, 2024, 22:30:12 PM »
You seem to only be referencing your initial 1 week ban for using a racial slur. Your permanent ban was for doxxing another player by using their real name as your in-game name. You also did this while circumventing your 1 week ban.
That's a pretty big series of dumb mistakes.

Unfortunately, this type of toxic behavior isn't isolated. On numerous occasions, I have encountered players who use racial and sexual references both in the in-game chatbox and during gameplay, which creates an uncomfortable and hostile environment. Despite reporting these incidents, I feel that I have been subjected to unjust treatment, as the focus has been solely on my actions, while those responsible for the initial provocations and offensive language have faced no consequences.

We can only punish for offense we're aware of. You claim to have reported these incidents, but to who? All I ever saw was a single screenshot and the player was warned.

You also told me you could just circumvent this ban, but I guess that hasn't really worked out.

I'm curious what others have to say about it.

I'd be super impressed if you could get it to work. AA 2 is based on UE2 and as far as I'm aware UE didn't get proper VR support until UE4.
