Feedback & Suggestions / Official map only servers needed
« on: Monday, January 15, 2024, 01:40:43 AM »
Maybe AAO25.com servers can adjust the maplist to include only official army maps?

It's a frequent complaint - especially amongst new players - who are sorely disappointed when they won't get the original AA experience they are looking for. You have a full server, and then suddenly you are thrown into a poorly performing, primitive looking custom map...

Is it possible to use 2.5 character models? I preferred them

I have the same issue. It seems like the downloader downloads the "system" 7zip file, but does not extract it.

I downloaded the system manually anyway from teddy's link, and now the installer just deleted everything in the armyops folder, after I put armyops folder in the manual "find" option!

I have the newest Win10 build, seems like it's not compatible anymore with 25assist?

E: finally got it working with below steps.

1. Redownload everything
2. Extract 'system' 7zip in 'armyops' folder
3. Close 25Assist, do not click "find" or it will delete everything!
4. Start 25Assist with admin rights, it will perform file check and recognize the system folder

That's a dumb comment. Army Ops =/= America's Army

You have to consider AA3 was still in alpha stage when it was released, it had so much potential that was wasted. It suddenly got rushed out because of development budget being lost due to actions of some corrupt officer, and the whole dev team was sacked at the same time.

Then the new cheapo skeleton crew wasn't able to do anything useful with AA3 and proceeded to make AA:PG.

There were rumors in 2020 about recruiting for a new army game, so who knows, there's a possibility. I'm holding no hopes.

AA2 actually did/does have random spread. It's quite small, but it's totally there.
Go offline and use wpnrecoil to remove recoil, start flying (that way you don't have sway when the sights are on) and you'll see what I mean. You'll see a grid like pattern.
Yeah there might be small. My opinion is that the spread should be small enough so that you can accurately shoot while moving in CQB. I don't think "random spread attachments" should make this possible or not, it should be core gameplay.

Real life militaries will also teach you to fire by the barrel line in CQB, not aim down sights.

There will be random spread, but it can be controlled by factors like going ADS, adding attachements and so on. The gunplay will be "AA2 like" but definitly not a 100% copy.
So yeah sounds like AA3 approach, I loved having no random spread in AA2 myself, just sway and recoil where the barrel points (affected by CEM). Set the game apart from others.

I just hope it wont go overboard with attachments, keep it real and focus on the base gameplay. If weapon damage is affected by attachments, it will always be selected by players as was noted in BFBC2, so it could be left out for starters.

Army Ops Alpha starting 01. May!
Here are some details on how weapons work and what's currently working:

Spread
Defines the inaccuracy of a Weapon. Spread can be affected by aiming down sight, movement and pose (positive and negative impact) and Weapon Attachements

Does this mean Army Ops is going for AA3 gunplay instead of AA2 style, with no random spread?

Very early work in progess ...

But I bet you know the place ;-)

Now we're talking.

If you are able to pull off a well refined remaster of AA2, you can guarantee it will start to live. There's a reason why AA1-2 was the most popular and played game on earth.

So what's up with this project? It's now Q3, and the situation seems to be still in Q1 "slow hiatus".

Interesting, with the surge of all these titles like Squad or Insurgency: Sandstorm bringing the most succesful 2005 titles alive again on UE4 platform, I thought: why not have AA2 brought to modern day as well?

There is nothing truly like it out there. But the concept of realistic 1-life-per-round gameplay that AA2 had, is bringing success even commercially with Rainbow Six: Siege being one of the most popular games on Steam for example.

Is this going to run on the same UE4 platform, that is reaping success for these indie studios?

Don't forget that huge part of AA2 was the working Tournament-mode, which let the competitive communities strive and breathe life into the game!
