Title: Next version, Important info.
Post by: Jonnym on Monday, January 30, 2012, 13:05:04 PM
In the next 2.5Assist release there will no longer be seperate maap and aa modes. The mAAp files will be merged into the standard installation.
The downside of this is that everyone will have to download mAAp pack.
I understand that this is going to annoy some people but please understand that we need to do this to improve the security of the game.
We need to to standardise the installation so everyone and every server has the exact same files in their folder, Only then can we step up security to the next level.
I'm sure you won't mind having to download another 60 or so meg to keep the game free from hackers.

Jonny, are you going to hold this off until the mAAp public beta? Kill 2 stones with 1 bird so to speak?

Cool, cool. So I can strip a few other files? I know you can get rid of the music, that .ogg file.

Yes everythings within your remit now. But i'm not sure why you would remove files?

Smaller install size :) But not for now. Maybe down the road. Time is better spent on mAAp.

Bots, check out this hot bitch Rachel;

She even helped the AA devs port to PS2/XBOX.

mAAp does have a bunch of useless/low quality maps!

I agree some could be removed.
Terminal confilct and square could go imo, but i would need to discuss this with the rest of the maap dev team.

Imho, it would be better to have the community vote for the top 10 maps and just have that. That way we could avoid players dispersing, have a lower file size and still have new maps to play.

Certain maps, like GlassKillHouse and Ice are being developed further, so i would say that i agree in a general way but you might want to see newer version of such maps when they're will be updated in mAAp 7.

IMO, the only maps that could/should be removed are: Terminal Conflict, Urban Defense, and Sniper Canyon. I believe the either suit AA or are enjoyed by the community.

I've brought back SF Refinery from version 5 (it was removed in v6, not sure why). I would also like to see Berg come back as that map was simple but it's a unique concept that isn't anywhere else in AA - uphill battle, literally.

Well if i do get the hang of this editor i will be putting out quality maps and if they are not quality i wont put them out for use...

it reminds me of 3D max..

If (or) it can think of it that in order to exclude switch off shadows in game, it facilitates awfully and at the same time it prevents from normal contest match.

Navahoo is right, you guys should find a way to remove shadows.

Shadows of what? Dynamic player shadows? How are they a problem?

When an enemy isn't moving you can see his shadow and it tells you where he is... some players might think that's an advantage and people saw an opportunity to disput matches, i guess dev team abolished shadow's for that reason in 2.7. Tomorrow I'll post a ss if necessary.

Isn't there a server option to disable shadows for a tournament?
Title: Re: Next version, Important info.
Post by: Yahoo on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, 22:15:23 PM
Yes, but i checked on the rules and there's nothing referring to shadows.

I just looked and I don't see anything about shadows in the admin menu. I know I saw it somewhere though... Anyway, if you have a problem with the 2.5 league, please post in the proper forum in a new thread.

Yo who removed Berg back then? I loved that map. It needs a bit of refining, but the map is great (even though it's incredibly simple lol).

Might have been me. I remember adding playerblocks to the hill though. Not sure why I would have removed it...

I still believe my suggestion is more reasonable. In the long run you'll see I'm right.

I think it's bad to limit it to just 10. We're converting and improving all the time. I think once the maps in the poll are removed, all that will be left are the popular playable maps. It would also be difficult to setup a poll for people to select their favorite maps.

Shadows were not abolished in later version, they just gave you the option to turn them off..

I like them as it is more realistic.

Same here. The only exception is when you can see someone through a wall but I only ever saw that in older versions like 2.3.

I still see a tear ect, think this happend on later version also when players push against walls.
I simply learnt not to do this..

It's just for us privileged people :P It's for the new version of Assist and mAAp v7. Just wait another 24 hours or so.
