Hi Everyone
I have compiled a Universal Binary (Intel and PowerPC) version of 2.5Assist. This will work on Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Lion and Mountain Lion.
Please can all you Mac people test it for me. I'm sure it works on Intel macs because I have tested it myself, Hopefully there are still some of you out there with PowerPC macs to test it with because I have no idea it it will work or not.
People with intel macs that have being using assist through rosetta emulation will see a huge performance boost with this version.
Here the Link:

Happy testing.

i have no mac, but thx.
-
AA runs fine on non PPC macs?
-
It did not work on lion or mountain lion because they took away the ppc emulator, this version is now Intel native.
-
Anyone tried it yet?
-
good job=windows:)
-
Updated to fix some severe lag problems on intel Macs, Please download again...

Thought I'd move this to News so you get a bit more attention :)
-
I'm guessing the mac players have gone a long time ago since the mac version has not worked for such a long time.
-
Probably :) Have you posted this on BT or any of those old mac sites you used to post on?
-
Nice one Jonnhy ;)
-
Just DLing now!
Will see how it goes!
Cheers,
PIC.

Generally running really well apart from a lag (video) issue, feels like an intermittent spike. Does make it kind of unplayable as it seems to happen in battles typically.
Tried several maps and resolutions.
Otherwise no issues, installed fine and deployment, settings etc work good.
Mac Pro 2008 2 x 2.8 Quad
16GB 800's
ATI 5770 1GB
OSX.8.4

I am working on sorting out the lag spikes so should be fixed in the next update.
-
Download again, Big performance improvements have been made...

Hey JonnyM,
I DLd it again last night from that previous link you posted, is the one you just posted now a newer version?!
FYI:
DLd original link
DLd link from post dated 01 July
Is latest link posted new?
Will DL it again anyway just to test.
Thanks for your effort on this mate, it is appreciated.
Cheers,
PIC

I don't think the link changes but the file contents does.
-
Cheers mate,
Yeh have DLd from latest link and still experiencing the lag issue.
Pity because other than that it runs and looks great, especially on my 27" Apple LED, 2560x1440!
-
I did have the lag you described earlier but this is now fixed, in the last update i got cpu usage down from 100% on 2 cores to avg 75% on 1 core with the lag gone and its now running really smooth on both my powerpc and intel macs.
How much ram do you have? also run the game in windowed mode with system monitor open and monitor the cpu usage to check system is not maxing out.

Hey JonnyM
These are my specs mate:
Mac Pro 2008 2 x 2.8 Quad
16GB 800's
ATI 5770 1GB
OSX.8.4
Ah, they may be it! Yeh I will try that.
How would I go about 'underclocking' for the game so-to-speak?
I normally run it through Bootcamp on Vista 64Bit on a separate internal HD and had no problems there. However, Bootcamp 4 (I am on version 5 now) only supports Windows 7 onwards... which I don't have and don't want to spend money on.
Also, using the 2nd internal HD for a scratch disk now.
Thanks for your help man!

Found this, will give it a whirl.

Thanks for the updates,
I came here to see if there had been any progress on a Mac version so will definitely give this a go!

I might be missing something but I don't think Jonny meant to have you limit cores. I think he just wanted you to open up the system monitor to see CPU usage while you're playing and get a screenshot to share.
-
Yeh I ran the Activity Monitor and was getting an average 100 percent also so did some searching on running older applications which led me to that.
Funny thing is I tested running with two cores which did remove the lag but unfortunately slowly returned?!
I tried running different amounts of cores but with no luck...
Yeh would rather just run as normal.
Will update to new version tonight. All part of the beta testing process!

Downloaded the version for Mac and it works excellent so far

Wolflnx!
Hey mate, shit been a few years since Fas days huh!?
Good to see you still around. Nice rig BTW!
PICA.
-
Well, unfortunately I can't seem to get the game to run without the lag spikes...
Have tried just about every combination setup to no avail.
JonnyM, is there system log info I can provide you to see if it is my rig?! While game is running etc.
-
Its PB cvar checks, there is work in progress to offload then onto assist.
But I find it does not stop playability and is the same on windows.
-
Hey JonnyM,
Well mate I gave it a good nudge but have been unable to get the game to run smoothly enough to play on OSX.
As it happens, I installed Winblows 7 on a partitioned HD and the game runs like butter!
Appreciate the effort mate, just must be something to do with my rig aye!?
Cheers,
PICA.

Hope you get a fix Pica, I just have to tweak my mouse is to fast I don't know which way I'm facing when I move the mouse sometimes.
I have some problems but is with AA3 running with parallel and windows 7. I have windows computer for AA3 anyway.
-
Sweet as Wolflnx, get a Razer mate!
I tried a while ago to run AA etc through Parallels, was hopeless, Bootcamp is the only way really.
Worked out alright, I partitioned my Scratch Disk – 100gb for W7 and 400gb for Scratch.
See you on the Battlefield, we mainly play on the Aus AAO25 Community servers, good ping!
Cheers,
PICA.
