we are going to need help from the community to solve this problem, When you get a CE please post here with details.

do you get CE if you turn off SAI show names?
do you get CE if you disable the SAI.
were you alt-tabbing out of the game when you got the CE?
was the game minimized at the time?
had the round just started?
had the round just ended?
what happened in the game just before the CE?

I can say I had:

- never tried to disable it
- sometimes minimized, sometimes not
- Will edit my post with further info when i'll look for it

to stay ontopic:

do you get CE if you turn off SAI show names? Idk I don't turn that off.
do you get CE if you disable the SAI.? Idk I don't disable it.
were you alt-tabbing out of the game when you got the CE? Well yes, but I got it when I went back to the game.
was the game minimized at the time? No
had the round just started? No
had the round just ended? No
what happened in the game just before the CE? It had 3 lag spikes

So basicly I went back to the game, because I was looking on the my internet browser. When I came back it had 3 short lag spikes and it crashed

The other day I played mAAp Pipe and minimized probably a dozen times over the course of 2 hours while playing with 10 other people or so with all SAI settings default. Then, at the end of those 2 hours, I wanted to record something funny on FRAPS. Hit the record button and got an instant SplashInteraction critical. I'm noticing that my stock install of AA on my desktop used for testing maps shows the fraps FPS indicator but Assist will flash the FPS indicator or not show it at all. It's almost like there's a fight going on or something like that. The first suggestion I would say is to disable external hooks like TS overlay, FRAPS, Steam, etc...

I have had at least 20 CE's since sai, Im now starting to play significantly less. Its a royal pain in the a55 crashing if i minimize. Multitasking is what i do.

PLEASE roll back SAI and fix this game. At least til issues are resolved. Its not worth changing if its going to cause all these crashes.

* I feel I need to say this 1st before my reply since others will flame me *
YES I love this game and appreciate those who spend time and money making it playable. BUT:

We are having updates forced down our throats, and this current one as absolutely destroyed the games stability. EVERYONE is getting game crashes.

Ill be in teamspeak with 10ish people, and 5 minutes doesnt go by where someone says " Sigh, critical error "

We also get a ton of people crashing and sitting idle. Others saying _ _ _ _ _  crashed, plz kick him so he can join again.

Its quite ridiculous, any company or other game in this situation wouldn't force the end user to deal with this, but here were are.

I dont want SAI, I dont want crashes, But if I disable SAI i get absolutely 0 compass / radar, and still have game crashes. Its sitting at a lose lose.

We are working on a fix.

It should still be in a beta phase if its premature for release. Not the current version.

I know a perfect fix. REMOVE sai and roll back until issues are resolved.

THEN release it again, if still or new issues, roll back again and keep working.

Cut your loses, accept it isnt up to par yet and keep working. I commend you on your work, but we should not be left with an unfinished and unstable game.

Things should be fixed behind the scenes from those who are not involved in development or beta testing and so on.

Think about potential new players that are just trying this game for the 1st time.

Are they going to put up with multiple game crashes an hour. No way in hell. They will quite literally think " fk this sh1t, what a waste of time".
Title: Re: Critical Error
Post by: Spanky on Friday, August 16, 2013, 17:20:24 PM
These crashes were not an issue in the beta test, we ran a server with several people coming and going with different settings and had no issues. These things happen; think AA3 or BF3 both were catastrophic failures even though there were paid developer teams, beta testers and complete access to the game's source code.

You guys should see if you still get the crash after disabling TS overlay, FRAPS and any other DirectX hooks.

The 'beta' team isn't large enough to find every problem and be effective, given the community size.  I suggest extensive use of a bugtracker (maybe use sourceforge's) and have the links to it on this website.  That way you can monitor trends and get the best intelligence on what the problem might be.

EA sucked already in 1984. i <3 their game 'karateka', but it used to crash
all the time on my Apple II E. It specially sucked as i was about to free
Princess Mariko and the damn game went down (no level saving in those times)

hey ganja, can you play ones more at one of the [SWISS] servers please, but do disable the SAI then.
because on all [SWISS] servers, the SAI is deactivated now just to see if the problem is to be find around somewhere there (for lag and critical errors).
thanks you.

if you have lag, just write it as a message like you did before. I am running a program which is searching for all players with a message "lag". I will see it then. if you have no lag at all or a CE, please give me a feedback in here. thank you.

There is something REALLY weird going on with SAI, I'm not even sure if it's an SAI problem or not. On a local server, everything is perfect but in Assist, weird stuff happens.
Title: Re: Critical Error

Title: Re: Critical Error
Post by: Spanky on Saturday, August 17, 2013, 15:05:08 PM
I'm 99% sure it's not SAI now. For a while there's been reports of D3DERR_DEVICELOST, even before SAI was implemented. People couldn't start the game in fullscreen mode. It looks like Assist is editing the ArmyOps.ini file which is causing these problems. Running AA in windowed mode doesn't produce any problems on my end.

Well then maybe I've only found the problem for D3DERR_DEVICELOST. Perhaps ELiZ and Possessed fixed the criticals in the newest version of SAI that I'm testing with.

If that is true and we can fix both with the next release, that would be epic win.

They are more present than ever I have to admit :(

Could it be that, the same way someone gets kicked by picking up a -kicked-guys-gun, someone gets CE when killing a guy just having CE?

did you play on a server with SAI disabled too?
try this one maybe - all [SWISS] servers are with SAI disabled for the moment.
I do not have criticals so far (had 2 of them, but with SAI enabled). maybe I am completely wrong, but as an IT specialist I do always step back if something goes wrong. I know, this is only one way, but let's see.

now I played on ganja's server too. had 4 rounds, then I get killed and I did leave (without CE) the game. then I got this:

what i can say for sure:
it is NOT the new function SAI. i did disable it on all of my servers, also the players did it on client side. and some have CE's every 4-5 minutes, some none of it.
myself i got 3-4 in 30 mins. now i did download the newest nvidia drivers for my graphic card (was not old, but you never know) and i played 20 mins without CE.
so i enabled SAI on my client again. i will post more informations when i will have played more...
maybe it could have someting with the graphic drives at all. remember with the updates from 2 weeks ago or maybe more, the message on win7 did say "prog not compatible with the graphic settings..." or something like that. and the coloc scheme was changed while assist was running. maybe somewhere there....

Same here newest AMD Catalyst installed :-)

Its funny sometimes I can play half an hour before the next CE happens and then I get it every 2 minutes.

Thats why I dont believe in a driver issue aswell.

How is it not SAI? I mean since the SAI update everyone gets these CE. What about a roll-back, so we don't have SAI anymore then we actually can see if it is SAI or not
