Title: 25Assist v7.20 is released

Version 7.20 has been rolled out today to all Servers and Client.

In this update we have concentrated on expanding the [mAAp] section of 25Assist.


Info on the new update written by Spanky:
This is a long-awaited update that is finally done. This has been almost a year in the making and there are many changes and I will try to cover them all in this post.

First, I would like to thank Jonny for making Assist and allowing all of us to unite together and remember the fun times we all had playing America's Army. I also want to thank Pit for taking lead of this project when nobody else wanted to, keeping it alive. A thank you also goes to ELiZ for making this update possible, doing all the work behind the scenes to update Assist and make sure everything is working properly.


Servers should auto-update within the next several hours, clients will update upon startup.

Map Changes:
mAAp Pipeline has the most significant upgrades with visual improvements, FPS increases and more features:

Ice, Aztec and Breakout also have significant graphical improvements. Most all other maps have minor tweaking of graphics or FPS improvements.

Tons of bugs were fixed with mAAp maps and official maps as well, a few of the notable ones are:
- Player going underneath ice sheet and black ice texture on Ice.
- Unusable spawn points on Berg.
- Fixed missing meshes on Dusk.
- Rendering issue in control room, added zone portals and tweaked objectives on Breakout.
- Bright lighting and enemy clothing on Rummage.
- Texture alignment, enemy clothing, default game type, added playerblocks and fixed comm location issues on Aztec.
- Door warping, sound and scoring issues on Square.
- Enemy clothing on Shipment.
- Removed windows allowing Defense to spam Assault on mAAp Pipeline.
- Rebuilt Ambush roof and added playerblocks in various areas to prevent glitches on SF Hospital.
- Added extra player slots to Shipment, Berg, Breakout, Ice, Square, Urban Assault, SF Hospital and Pipeline.
- Added objectives, moved Defense spawn points, fixed clothing, added missing light fixtures, fixed missing sounds, and added playerblocks to various areas to prevent problems on Interdiction.

The new SF Hospital is BS. I want the old map back. The slots and wwroof is serious bs. Why change the original maps? Create a new maap sfhospital and change whatever you want. But changing the original maps i dont understand.

Such a huge update with loads of good content :D as of now there are about 50 players playing mAAp missions (Petrol, Steamroller, Pool and CityBlock).

Thought I would elaborate on my last post;

Do you miss being able to glitch up there? Being able to stand/crouch/pone unrealistically on the railing? Being able to jump off a 3-story building?

None of that is realistic. While I was never able to replicate the rooftop bug, I'm pretty sure it's fixed now.

As for the slots, are you delusional? Each team got 4 more playerstarts which were copies of ones already there. Nothing changed as far as weapon layouts or inventory. I just thought since Hospital is always full at 26 slots, and that Assist supports 30, people might enjoy the extra players. Fuck me right?

Poolday is an exact convert, the only things changed were shadows (higher quality) and water deletion. The weapons were as the 2.8 author made them. Ask him :)

Thanks. I joined a server running it but was saddened to find out it was SF modded. :( It's still goods to see peopel enjoying it.  :)

That will most likely have to be something for the next release. No one pointed it put when the maps were being tested.

It's 32. Solution: limit server capacity to 26 slots. I don't see the problem with more potential for more people to have a good time.

There's actually 34 slots but I think Assist only supports 30 right now. Like MothaGoosE said, just limit your server if you don't like playing with others.

This is off-topic but Possessed already did change it, it just hasn't been implemented. I think there should be a community poll where people vote and if it's a close race, it stays as-is.

I agree. This method has the best chance of pissing off the least amount of players possible. I suggest that, when the poll does go up, everyone notify everyone they can to vote so that the community is more accurately represented. I also think the poll's results should be hidden until the poll is over.

You can't actually spam heliroof from wwroof now due to that little blockerthing, maybe that's what making him rage

Sure you can. Bullets go through playerblocks. I'm pretty sure that projectiles and grenades do as well...

Yeah you didn't get my point. I mean there is a kind of barricade, so if you spam from wwroof u can't spam straight to heliroof, u have to get forward and then people can actually see ya (I mean 203 spam at start)

Wait, the problem was going on the railing on the roof? Like standing or going prone and firing from there? That's what made people invisible? Me and Killa were never able to replicate the glitch so we could never test. I was just guessing on things that were causing problems up there.

Its great that you try to fix bugs and errors dont get me wrong. What I mean is that the roof is now such a disadvantage for the already harder ambush side. Now imagine you are on the roof and you are taking fire, now you even cannot get out of there because of that fence. You have to run from one side all the way across to the other and then again back to the door. And you even cannot lie on the floor because the ground is now flat over the whole area. When you go prone you cannot even see the esc bld 3rd floor because of the fence. You have to go more in front making yourself more vulnerable. Making it better for escort again.
Yes you can decrease the slots to 24 or 26 on the server, but then you are not able to get the bottom B,C on the escort side like it was before. So you are stuck with more IFs making it not balanced like it was before. You could do that you leave the weapon positions as they were and keep the extra ones on the bottom so they can be locked up when the server gets setup to 24 or 26. Not that much to ask.

I am pretty sure you will not change the things like they were before. Like they always were! Because you spent some time doing it so now you dont want them to be trashed. Sometimes you gotta do it. This is the time. Or am I the only one who thinks this?

KARI, I'm not sure what you mean by fence. The railing that is there has always been there. The things that were changed was the sunken part of the roof was removed and blocking volumes were put on top of the railings, preventing players from jumping over or standing/crouching/laying on top of them (very unrealistic).

The changes were done that way because nobody here could replicate the problem. If you help us fix the problem, we will try to restore as much of the original map as possible while keeping the bug fixed. The problem was that nobody could describe exactly where the bug happens, provide a video or help us test our fix attempts.

These railings were never there :)

The bug happens when you are proning behind those 2 big metal boxes and move a bit to the side. Sometimes you are invisible for a split second. But I have seen it also few times on other maps. I guess thats just the games fault. I have seen it on poolday. I guess there is no way how to solve it. The other bug is when you go prone next to those 2 biggest metal boxes and move forward. Then you couldnt be seen for example from esc stone stairs. esc boxes and the rest of the helicopter roof area. I havent tested it so I dont know if it is still possible or no.

These railings were never there :)

The bug happens when you are proning behind those 2 big metal boxes and move a bit to the side. Sometimes you are invisible for a split second. But I have seen it also few times on other maps. I guess thats just the games fault. I have seen it on poolday. I guess there is no way how to solve it. The other bug is when you go prone next to those 2 biggest metal boxes and move forward. Then you couldnt be seen for example from esc stone stairs. esc boxes and the rest of the helicopter roof area. I havent tested it so I dont know if it is still possible or no.

I believe you are referring to the first-person eye level vs third-person eye level. Because the First-person eye level is higher, you can sometimes poke your head out over an object and not be seen. This is just a part of the game. I believe the devs fixed that problem in one of the 2.8 Overmatch versions.

About the rear railing, I agree that the playerblock should disappear. Perhaps a physics volume so players can still jump over it, just not stay on top of it?

Wow... My bad, looking at the 2.5 release map, there are no railings. They fit in so well, I just thought they were always there.

So, I wonder if we move those 2 big boxes. Maybe rotate them 90 degrees and move them away from the wall a bit. Looking at the map with behindview, there's horrible collision there and I actually got stuck to where i couldn't move left or right. I think giving more of a gap would make things better.

KARI, would you be willing to test a map if I made a few changes?

Solution: limit server capacity to 26 slots. I don't see the problem with more potential for more people to have a good time.

and pool is very funny and good map.
and the other new maps to.
but me and kari we play long time hosp and we have test the new ww roof.

Just thinking about the bug, I'm wondering if it has to do with client-side vs server-side collision detection. I remember that the server also does collision from some experimenting a while back. The server isn't always accurate though and relies on updates from the client to make things more precise. Maybe with the ledge between the wall and metal boxes on the roof, the server things you're on the lower part yet the client is up on the ledge. This would mean everyone on the server would see the person on the lower part yet the client could shoot and see from the higher part.

i think that u shud not change old maps....there is no point in it...ppl love them with all their bugs....
if u want do something try to make new maps--------i think that what aao is missing is a good  map for respawn mission....ppl sometimes are not in mood to play serious and want make some mindlessshooting...

changes in old maps are....uhm well annoying......eliz just imagine i put some new shadows of trees on bc.....

1m50ry you're right, old maps shouldn't be changed but Spanky only tried to correct a bug on the map that was also corrected by the dev's in between some version before 2.8.5, so he didn't do anything new, only tried to replicate what was done before by the dev's.. I'm sure it will be fixed soon.

I think I know how to fix the bug when people prone and move forwards and wont be seen from the ground. There used to be a little ledge on the on of the wwroof. Make it just a bit taller so people cannot see the ground (esc boxes, esc stone stairs) when they are proning in front on the wwroof next to those 2 biggest metal boxes. So they have to crouch and should be visible from ground. It would give players a little bit more cover making it harder for esc bld players to kill them. Thats the downside. So you can remove the railings on both sides and keep the previous layout of the floor on the roof.

Maybe stupid question... Is it possible to copy, paste the wwroof from the 2.8.5 version where it was all corrected or was this fixed somehow inside the game engine?

U did great job there. Now I have a question, why is there an rpk on poolday that is closer to blue team than red team? I don't understand why make this unfair lol

its not unfair, its there as a prize. if blue team goes to pick it up they risk getting shot because they cant get out of the little pool except via the little ledge.

just looked at SF Hospital west wing roof for the first time.  I can see why people complain about the back railing. There's only one way to go up and down and thats by the ladder.  Removing that would be great.  As for the railing stopping you from falling off, I don't see whats so bad about it.  It barely blocks your view and its actually realistic.  It's definitely not worth making an account here just to call everyone retards and cry about it. 

I personally have never seen this glitch everyone is talking about.

i'm just a pubber these days and i dont follow any forums. the fact is hospital is the most popular map but the additional slots are useless and ww roof changes are flawed like KARI said. there really is no need to add slots to maps like hospital, urban, tunnel etc. but poolday could use another 2 slots or so.

I don't think more slots on PoolDay would help anyone... there's just not enough room for too many more players (OK, maybe like max 8 per side, but definitely not more), if it were 13 vs 13 you could just randomly shoot and hit someone just because there's so many people...
