Title: Motorcycle Troubleshooting?
Post by: Spanky on Saturday, August 06, 2011, 19:34:50 PM
Anyone here into motorcycles/dirt bikes? I've been wanting to buy one as a fixer-upper since I've worked on small engines before and feel comfortable in taking the next step into a larger engine. A guy contacted me saying he has a 2004 Lifan Enduro 200cc motorcycle that was stored outside but covered during this last winter and in the spring it wouldn't "turn over". He mentioned in a previous email that he thinks the engine is seized. He wants $100 for it and it's a 75 mile round-trip to pick it up. Anyone know if it's worth it? I've read that the Lifan's are Chinese-made bikes that aren't very good but at $100 for a $1,500-$2,500 bike it's VERY tempting. Any help is appreciated.

For 100$ it sounds like it would be worth it. 200cc isn't much but it should do highway speeds. 50~ish. If any thing its 100$ and a great way to learn.

I never heard back from the guy. I probably asked too many questions and scared him off. Kody, you're the first person that said "it would be worth it". Everybody else says to stay away. I already spent the money on hard drives and I would rather find what I was originally looking for. Something along the lines of this:

I actually ended up doing a trade for a 1970 Honda CT90. Still a work in progress but I have ridden it and love it.

I'd heard of it but my friend is reading now and is gonna let me borrow it once he's done. I'm reading Narcissus and Goldmund now, not quite as exciting but a great read nonetheless.

I've only seen it mentioned a few times, never read it. I'm tempted though even though I'm not into philosophy.
