Title: [Aapg] game crashing at start up
Post by: Placid- on Friday, April 29, 2016, 16:36:55 PM
Downloaded AAPG, guess i'll give it a try. For example on moments when auth is down :P Have played it before for a couple of minutes, but deleted it right away. Hopefully the shooting isnt fancy like cod or battlefield.

Getting the message 'AAgame.exe has stopped working' and/or 'ran out of videocart memory. Exiting."

I can run the game and pick a weapon. The moment the weaponslot 'screen' is gone and im spectating a player or when the game is starting, it crashes. Sometimes right away, sometimes after 30 seconds.

Clear system temporary files and use the check data cache on Steam (game properties, should be the first tab). If it still reports a couple of corrupted files after the check its still fine.

I dont have a clue what you mean lol. Where can i find these files?

no errors, besides two files. PB seemed to be missing. But the game still crashes.

You can use windows tools (you just need to select the kind of files you want to get rid of), whether you're using win 7
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/start-disk-cleanup (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/start-disk-cleanup)

Or windows 10.

Your system spec and OS version might also help in clearing out the issue. I took for granted that you either run on win 7 or 10 because aapg *virtually* runs in some way on XP, but at least based on my experience it would not run properly, of course (and indeed the game requirements specify that).

I cleared the temporary files, it ran for 30 seconds and then crashed.

Ive got a fairly old computer, 5 years old.
intel e8500
gforce 560 ti
4 gb ram
windows 7 32 bit

I tried:
- reinstalling the game
- rolling back videocard driver to 2014
- low game settings
- clearing game cache
- deleting temporarly files
- i tried: "bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 3072" - no idea what it means.

edit, ive tried aapg when it was still beta. It ran without crashes back then.

I guess you also restarted your pc at this point...if you did, and the game still keeps crashing, then taking a look at the crash log might be useful. It should be located in your aapg log folder under documents/my games/aapg. Currently I'm on the phone and can't look it up, but it should be there, copy the last 60 lines from the log and paste em on www.pastebin.com (http://www.pastebin.com) and leave the link around here.
Anyhow:

P.s. and I'm off to sleep btw :)

if it keeps crashing after you have used bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 3072, try to play another Map, try the Training too. For me still crash on some maps.

He wrote about a crash on startup. Btw Placid, you could also try lowering everything you can from the .ini and then start the game. That could also help you, you can lower the resolution down to 1024x768, disable antialiasing and that could alone might make a difference enough...the .ini you need to look at should be either aaengine.ini or another one with settings in the name (I just can't remember right now).

Ini's sit in my games/aapg/config

Here it is, I think. Lower your resolution and lower everything you legitimately can from the ini as I wrote above and you might get it to work, not at best tho. Of course using a 32 bits system also limits the amount of ram you can use to around 3gb.

[0197.29] Log: === Critical error: ===
Ran out of virtual memory. To prevent this condition, you must free up more space on your primary hard disk.

I can't play it much time since it became out of Beta. I can't use a 64bits OS because it crashes due to AMD drivers and Intel mobo conflict :/
If you have enough space on your HD or another hd, install win 7 x64.

Btw, a little sidenote: with the final release (and earlier on, with the opt in) the devs scrapped the old user interface and moved to a new custom one. That might also be affecting performance. Oh, and of course the server browser and game menus are now part of the game as a whole...hopefully these were not the features that rendered the launcher unstable back in the old beta, but they surely add in complexity to the game itself (which would have otherwise benefitted of leaving that kind of thing on the launcher).

The old interface actually made people with high-end pc's lag.
We had to turn health bar off and ammo count off in old beta to ensure we didn't lag.

there is an option if you would like to save the config datas to cloud. as i can see in the logfile, this part did fail (could not ..to cloud).

you can switch this of. try it please. and do the settings of the video to its minimum first to check if it runs smooth.

I've lowered all settings, including resolution. Sometimes, when it doesnt crash immedaitely, i can play a round or two, but then it crashes.

@ merlin, i dont know what you mean with cloud files. Where can i switch this off ?

Its really odd, since i could play the beta version.

Its among the options in the game properties, on your steam client. This anyway isn't probably related to that. As a last measure you might try to literally delete your aapg folder on my games/aapg (the game would make a new one on the next start up), as it will clear out some cache data which sometimes does indeed get corrupted. But your main problem is the low amount of ram (3gb of ram aren't really enough). You can further free some system memory to get more usable one by closing background processes and apps you don't need.

P.s. just as a routine question, but...does any other game run flawlessly? And especially Unreal 3 engine based games, if you play any other than aapg?

I only play AA2 and Warface. Not sure what kind of game Warface is, but it runs without any problems

Warfare runs on the CryEngine 3 but aside of the different engine (which still makes for great visual quality), it must be optimized for older systems because the requirements are truly low...

Me 2, I like the way AAPG plays. It's not the same as AA2 though, but it's a good different thing.
Although I did like old beta more.

Yeah, these days you'll have an hard time finding a populated server that hosts either Overload or Homestead, maybe some Checkout servers, but other than that is nearly completely Inner Hospital (TTtNg and KidZ offer some variety) and the usual bdx maps which are small 6vs6 maps, sort of competitive (if you can stand being able to shoot and get shot through "walls"). Back at the beginning the old beta surely featured less maps but the map rotation list was somewhat quite enjoyable...that didn't last long unfortunately.

shooting through walls isn't as bad anymore as it used to be, trust me :D

Imo watchdog, shadowstep and siege are quite enjoyable now

Did they lower the resulting damage? I still don't think I should have to learn most of the spam shot points before playing the bdx maps (they're definitely not "newbie friendly"). At least back in aa2 you only had to make sure you avoided the spam dropshots at the beginning! :P

I guess it will take a while till i get used to this game. Much more recoil than AA2. Besides that, is there a possibility to get a scope, simular or identical to the SF weapons in AA2. The only scopes i've seen on automatic weapons are small red dots, which don't zoom. Hell, getting owned bigtime lol

As of late i always play on the .ew server. I was also wondering if anyone has an idea about the size of the latest patch (the main one of course, not the hotfix) because i dont really have a lot of time to play nor to even leave my laptop on to download it...i'm concerned about the patch size because i was updating stuff on an old pc i never update and it tells me its around 4.7 gb O.o

It's been removed in an old version when there wasn't any sway or spray when unscoped. People used scoped guns only and just unscoped in close combat, that was pretty OP back then.

I just played the game after the patch. A few animations feel odd (particularly the slide one) and I think some lighting has been modified. Oh, and the grenade exploit is back! :D (unless they fixed it with the hotfix, which might be the reason why the slide feels odd?)

I just facepalmed...taken from the official forums. And this is also the reason why you might still get a crash on startup, it still uses high res models/textures for the menu (it won't while loading the map)......

(Official aa forum user) - Man, stop being vague. What is it?
I feel a lack of closure! lol

Philbash (dev) - We think it was due to the weapon/character spinners in the main menu forcing about 500MB worth of friendly weapon/character textures to be permanently loaded in memory at their highest resolution. The textures are now unloaded when you change maps

Yea, explains why I had crashs on startup before using the 3gb trick, I'm downloading a 60gb game, so I did not tried AA:PG online with my new windows x64 install.
