I'm not 100% on what this is.
I honestly don't have anything bad to say about any of the images. The only thing really is the color seems a bit... off. But it's almost like a style, like how they filmed The Aviator. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Aviator_colours.jpg
-
comment and criticize I'm assuming...
-
Yeah Killaman is right. Its not an intended style, my camera was "bluing" or "discoloring" really badly. I tried to fix some of it in PP but I don't have photoshop at the moment so this will be known as my "Blue" series. In some of the photos with sky it fades from blue to green. That is not how it was when the frame was exposed, the sky was really blue the day I took these and the little PP I did ended up turning the sky greenish. I have all of the original files and I will re-edit once I have photoshop again (I might just download GIMP for now).
-
mad drift corner on there
Yeah to bad the road is total shit lol.
-
I think you know this but most of the pictures are overexposed and not white balanced. I really like the picture with the goats and the question mark.
-
Nice photos i got some of the rooftop of the building office i work on, would you like me to show them?
-
Sure if you want to.
-
Rgr, i'll download them from my phone to dropbox now

El Dorado California, USA 95623 Its way nicer every other time of year, its the height of summer right now and most every thing is dead.

These where taken with my Fuji Film Finepix S1000fd.

Got my hands on a Nikon D40 for a few minutes tonight. Paired it with my tri-pod and got some star photos. They are crap but its pretty cool cause you can only see about half those stars with the naked eye.

What was the shutter speed on those night shots?
-
It was some thing like a 45 second exposure.
-
Just looked, it was a 30second exposure.
-
Cool. It caught a lot of stars. I wonder how many more stars it would catch if you maxed the cameras allowed shutter speed.

As many as you see in that last picture. That is the max shutter and ISO for that camera.

Lets build special software for nikons to allow 1+ minute exposures. We could capture galaxies!
Okay maybe not galaxies....

Lets build special software for nikons
Someone kinda did that:

-
O shit, I didn't think that was actually possible.
-
Its possible with a telescope and camera mount. Pretty much you turn the telescope into a HUGE lens. But it costs a lot.

I think he meant the firmware. </successful hijack>

my nikon lets me do if as long as i hold the button. What type do you have?
-
The one I was using had that same feature but it was so cold all the photos where turning out blurry.

Kinda the same for me too. I generally rig up a ghetto stand and turn on timer after autofocusing.
-
I had it on a tri-pod but when you are doing long exposures like that its really hard to stay still when its 20F degrees.
-
invest in a remote for your camera will help with the shaking
-
I would if that was my camera.

bummer. invest in a dslr ;)

Yeah I'm working on it :) Should have a Canon 60D by the end of the month.

Tree in blue and clouds over trees don't speak to me. The rest look fantastic though. I'd say you're settling in some more :)
-
They're all cool. Do you geotag photos?
-
Post by Knight203, on Flickr <- best of series
-
That one and sweeping clouds are the two I looked at for more than 5 seconds.
-
I don't know how to Geotag photos. Jared wtf are you talking about? Which one did you look at for more than 5 seconds blue?
-
I believe Geotagging is done on the camera. It has a GPS inside that records coordinates into EXIF data.
-
I said that your shot "POST" was the best in the series.
-
Ohhhhhh ;D And my camera can't geotag.
-
Some people are more techie and hook up a gps to their camera. So are are not and tag by hand.
I think its cool to geotag photos since I like the idea of actually having a photo to look at when viewing a region on google maps.
-
All of those in that last post are on Kingvale road in El Dorado California.

Honestly, I only really like the hydrant one. It's nicely detailed and is almost an optical illusion. The others are bland except for the first which seems to have color issues. I realize it's bronze and probably copper but even so, the colors just seem off. The last one is alright.
-
I like 1 & 3, but whats giving me issues, is that the object of matter is dead center, use the rule of thirds when doing composition.
If you don't know what that is look here, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rule_of_thirds

If you had a fish-eye on those, it would look epic.
-
I honestly hate sports photography with a fish-eye. Its been done to death. Fish-eye's are really just a gimmick, while they can be used to make some amazing shots I'm sick of seeing sports photography done with them.
-
I find that fish-eye isn't being used properly and thats why many dont like it. It's only supposed to be used for ground shots to make jumps look big. I also find that fish-eyes are getting stronger at time goes by. There's too many people using extreme fish-eyes that make a rectangular photo a sphere. It should only be slightly there so it looks badass.

knight one thing i think you should take a look at, is the rule of thirds. Almost all of the photos you have posted the main focal point is in the center of the picture which is boring imo.
http://bit.ly/l0mml7 <-- take a look
for an example i took a picture of a basket ball hoop.
(https://aao25.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg199.imageshack.us%2Fimg199%2F1329%2Fhoopt.jpg&hash=2c703fa2c5c2f3b3d2d5a847e2344ee3) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/199/hoopt.jpg/)
-
Jared I know the rule of thirds. Ive read more on it than I care to remember. I hate negative space. If its not contributing to the photo its taking away from it. And I avoid that. I'm still playing with composure and figuring out the way I like my photos. I think to many people are constrained by "Rules" of photography. Every exposure I do is an experiment in some way.
-
The rules of composition are not their to constrain they are there to guide. If you know the rules and how use them correctly then you know how to break them properly.
Negative space, is a hard thing to learn I myself am still struggling to use this. IMO your post, If its not contributing to the photo its taking away from it
, is completely false. “Less is more†is probably the most well-known catch phrase of the minimalist movement, but the truth is you know its good, when it looks easy.
I'm not here to bust your balls, I'm trying to help you get better, but it seems every time someone posts something negative about your work you fight it ( this could just be me ). I have been design for a while now, and over this time i have learned not to fall in love with your work, if you do this will be your demise. I did some art work for a client I spent prbly about 2-3 weeks on it and i was fucking pumped. I showed it to them and they hated it. I had to redo this cool ass poster and make a shitty one that their small minds could comprehend. In the end they are the ones writing the paycheck so I gave them what they wanted. People will always judge your work wither you like it or not, i found its better to listen and comprehend, maybe if try a suggestion.
The great designers and photographers didn't get there alone, they had help and had great collaboration. At the age of 21 I have worked with fortune 500 companies, ESPN, X-Games and all the way down to local mom and pop shops and none of this would be possible if i didn't learn from other people.
Just some advice take it or leave it.
-
Center is boring but when the subject fills up the whole frame, sometimes center works. Just my 2 cents.
As for the pictures, I like the first one, I can't fault it. The second would be better from another angle. The third, as with 40-60% of your pics almost seems like it has too much contrast. I don't know if that's good or bad, it just seems to pop out at me.
-
The RX photo is pretty cool. It takes you back to the 50s, slightly.
-
Jared I understand what you are saying but my photography is just that, mine. If some one was paying me I would listen to them and take what they want into account. But no one is paying me, I do this for me. If I don't like a photo it doesn't see the light of day. I take what every one says into account and I try others suggestions to see if they fit with what I like to do. If it works it stays if not then I move on. I have my own taste and what I show other people is the selection of photos that I like. I don't take pics for any other reason that I enjoy it so much.
@Nate, that third one was me just messing around in photoshop and I found some thing that looked neat.
@Blue, thanks. I was trying for a 40s/50s look with it.
-
but why not strive for greatness?
-
If photography makes me happy who says I haven't achieved greatness?
-
that was fucking stupid.
-
Simmer down Jared. This isn't a place to bash people for pursuing their passion.
