So the default X-Fire skin annoys me, it doesn't fit with anything else on my desktop. A look at the X-Fire skin forums shows that the X-Fire devs don't give a crap about the skinners doing free work for the community and constantly break/update stuff and thus skinning is hard to document and work on. A while back I used to like the old CleanX skin, it emulated Vista and looked... clean. Lots of stuff has since been added to X-Fire to break that skin but a new version was released called CleanX Dark. This skin suits my desktop properly except it has orange. So, I modded it :D Changed some of the annoying orange stuff to a pleasant blue to match the rest of my desktop. I got it working alright and decided I would share the first version:

On Windows 7 (and probably Vista) the subfolders and .ini's go here:
C:\ProgramData\Xfire\Skins\CleanX dark
On XP:
C:\Program Files\Xfire\Skins\CleanX dark\
I will try to make more changes in the future and possibly remove the annoying ad.

Haha nice, when I installed xfire earlier this month I was about to ask what skin's people used since the default one is ridiculous and almost every other skin available is equally as bad as the default. This looks nice and I'm gonna use it. Who knows, maybe youll become an xfire skin dev or something.

Good find, I had that disabled. I also noticed that the Friends Offline is grey, not white as the Online are, however come to think of it, maybe they should be a slightly darker grey... Oh well, all text in that area is now white. Updated link in first post.

Ok, so as far as I know, there is no way to remove the ad without xfire connecting to update. The most you can do is get it to stop downloading the advertisements which leaves the default xfire banner. Ill look into this some more.

the skins don't really bother me because I am never really at the desktop. I'm either on the internet or playing a game.

There were/are 2 places that I know of for X-Fire to host their ads:
xfire.adbureau.net
media.xfire.com
I have both routed via DNS and I always see a white image, not the default X-Fire logo.

I found a little patch that just stops it from displaying ads, so it just displayed the default blue banner. But I hax3d the exe it displays a 1x1 pixel transparent png. I just need to change the background behind the ad in the skin to something else now, cuz it just shows a black box.

Then you can go to http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/ so you can download resource hacker and hack up the exe to do other things =)

Here's a cracked binary with the logo replaced with a 1x1 black pixel. Unfortunately the logo is a jpg so I don't think we'll get transparency and also the 1x1 pixel fills in the ad space to be the regular size. It fits better with the theme but it's not gone yet...

Even if you put a 1x1 transparent pixel on the ad space, the background turns white.

I probably could have told you that... That's how my ad-blocking works, I re-route ad requests via DNS to a local webserver running PixelServ, a 1x1 transparent png and my X-Fire was always white where the ad was, until now :D

First post updated with screenshot. Keep in mind it is an older theme so it may not work 100% with in-game whatnots.

lol, I changed the banner to a graphic I made in PS of my name, but it was the wrong size =D
So what other mods can we do fur gheyfire?
