Title: Classical Music
Post by: BlueBlaster on Sunday, April 25, 2010, 21:23:11 PM
I know Spanky is the master of this. Does anyone recommend any good composers or pieces? I've got to build up the classical genre on my hard drive :)

Ooh, ooh. Me too!

I had to adjust my columns a little to show all the artists, but here goes. This was labeled as the "100 Greatest Classical Songs" or something, but I haven't listened to all of it or even removed the radical symbols from some haha.

Ignore Steve Azar, one of his songs was tagged as classical for some reason >.>

:) I'm not SUPER into it but I do have a few nice albums. Here's a few things I would recommend:

Amy Beach - An excellent female composer.
Hilary Hahn - Female violinist.

Others would be Glenn Gould, and all the typicals like Vivaldi, Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Prokofiev, Bartok.
There's also misc albums like "Various Artists / Best Guitar 100" (can't provide any more info, sorry), and Herb Alpert but I don't know if you can call that classical.

That's what I have :)

Vivaldi's Four Seasons is unbeatable.

I've been listening to some music since I first made the post and now I'm going to recommend what I've got so far :)
You can thank Amazon because they list all of the tracks, so you can see what's on there (except they messed up the Tchaikovsky disc, so I posted the right ones). I recommend all of them.
Franz Schubert: The Last Four Quartets (http://www.amazon.com/Schubert-The-Last-Four-Quartets/dp/B000VHMCRG)

Antonin Dvorak: Symphony No. 9 "From the New World" (http://www.amazon.com/Dvorak-Symphony-No-New-World/dp/B0000041OQ)

Vivaldi: The Four Seasons (http://www.amazon.com/Vivaldi-Four-Seasons-Antonio/dp/B000003CSU)
