I was bored today so I copied Blue's avatar. It was harder than I thought, and it took a little while to get it right. But, I think the result is pretty close to the original. I made it all in Blender, and put the GIF together in the Gimp.

Yeah, for some reason I just animated in that direction. I don't know why it spins so fast. I'm using 80 frames of animation, with 40 it would spin way too fast. Maybe there's a trick I haven't figured out. Brighter makes it look cooler in my opinion.
I made a dark version so we don't get mine and yours confused.

Yeah, that's why I chose black. The about 1000 lights are still blue colored, but I can only change them one at a time.

Alright, I tried my best to make the light a yellow orange color. I also used the Blender node system to remove all color except for the lights, so the sphere and the background should be totally black.
