3D Bedroom
« on: Saturday, January 16, 2010, 17:01:12 PM »
I recently saw a thread about lighting on CGTalk, where they were competing to light a bedroom scene. So I thought I'd have a go at it. I'm not using the same scene they used, because it'd probably melt my computer, but it's close enough.

This isn't finished yet, I still need to add some stuff and change a few thing. So I'll be updating this thread as I progress. That is, if I don't get side-tracked and stop working on it. And if anyone wants to try lighting it better, I'm providing the .3ds file below.

Rendered using Blender 2.49b Internal Render Engine. Render time: 4 minutes 55 seconds.

Is there only 1 light source in that scene or do you have a few omnidirectional lights in there too?

I like the lighting from the window. If you want some awesome lighting, id make the lamp shades semi transparent and put low power light sources there. The shadows will look very nice.

I also suggest you try and not have pure white light sources, since in real life there arn't really any pure white light sources.

There is one spot light and one hemi lamp. The hemi provides some ambient light, not much though, and I probably don't need it.

Yeah, I was going to do something like that. But the more stuff I turn on, the longer it takes to render. The last scene I rendered took 44 minutes to render, just because I enabled AO on a surface.  :-\

I stole Crunk's floor texture he used for his bullet and applied it to my floor.  :)

Render time: 22 minutes 17 seconds.

That's not as easy as you make it sound, but it's coming. I need to make a new bed first, that one is kinda just a place holder.  :)

I figured out I could use Blender's Cloth Simulator to put a sheet on the bed easily. And yes, I realize there's a copy of the bed outside the window.  ;)

Render time: 24 minutes 41 seconds.

Well, I was talking to Spanky and we both agreed there should be a picture frame in the room, even though neither of us have one in ours. I also made a cube-like clock radio in like 1 second, it's pretty cool.

Render time: 25 minutes 24 seconds.

lol my suggestion: picture frame above the bed. either abstract art or a landscape painting.
