OldTown converting suggestion - file inside - open to everyone interested
« on: Sunday, February 05, 2012, 18:25:06 PM »
For anyone feeling like starting convert a map, i strongly suggest OldTown, it's a very interesting layout with both open spaces and beautiful interiors, almost no meshes missing (just 2 in the whole map), most of the work is just retexturing which anyway is much better and faster than importing and placing meshes.

This is open to everyone, so if you are totally new to this kind of approach, read Spanky's guide about the namespace converting.

http://aao25.com/maap/2-8-map-converting/

here you can find the map code - use Notepad++ to open and edit the file

SMU_GH_SFOldTown code  -> http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5875434/maps/OldTown.txt

Notepad++ Download -> http://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/v5.9.8.html

p.s. didn't found many visuals to show you the map, but theres a little video.

Very nice :D i appreciate your interest, now you can start with the first step which is the most tedious part: converting the namespaces for sounds, textures and meshes from 2.8.5 model to 2.5 one. It will be tedious but i can assure you it's the fastest way to make game assets linking in order to work.

Once done, you can upload a the .txt file and either me or Spanky or BlueBlaster will use it to build the map.

I would hold off on this and see what ELiZ has come up with. This method is fine if it's all we have but comparing it to a program, it's pretty messy.
It's like shaving your pubes to make your junk look bigger.
Might look bigger, but it aint.....
