Title: My first project!
Post by: Maxbulldog_53 on Wednesday, May 09, 2012, 04:31:46 AM
So just started my first real project with the editor today after getting a feel for things and being able to navigate pretty well so here it goes!

Additions:
1.Basement Level:
As you can see in the video i have expanded the staircase down further near the garage doors. This is because i plan on adding a basement level to hospital. Access to this level will be that stairwell, (obviouslly) parking garage (for ambush) and escort vantage building stairwell. There will be 2 doors put in the parking garage entrance to slow down players from being able to cut off the vip. The reason for the entrance in escort vantage is first of all to give escort players a different way into the hospital other than the front doors therefore not having to worry about 203 spam. Also both stair cases will be connected in the basement. Basement will consist of a security room, interrogation room (possible new vip spawn) and a few storage rooms.

2.Chopper on the helipad:
Basically I did this because it's simply more realistic. It is where the vip now has to get to instead of in the helipad building. It just made more sense to me. Also it provides a bit of cover for people in the helipad and second floor of the hospital.

3.Nighttime:
Really I only did this because I like night maps better :)

4.Open Rooms:
You will notice I've opened a few rooms in the hospital. I have a created a waiting room on the second floor and have not yet decided on what I want the other rooms to be. Security room on first floor will eventually be moved to the basement.

If you have any suggestions please throw them at me!

Any chance of uploading the video to YouTube?

I'm interested about how you'll shape that Escort building entrance to the underground level, if you're going to make it like a tunnel it will be quite a lot easier for the vip for escape that way and the Ambush will have an hard time running behind.

Btw the official SE version of this map features that chopper.

I could upload the video to youtube if you'd like spanky.

And koden im honestly not sure yet. As you said it would be hella easy for the vip to escape that route so im kinda debating how i can do it right now. We will see what happens i guess. :D

Yea, shitty X-Fire doesn't play for me even though I can see the preview. It might have to do with my ad blocking though :)

Since you're changing the lighting, why not ramp up the coronas to 1.2x or 1.5x their original size. Might look better.

It's good to see you're jumping in with BSP and not just noobing around with placing random hovering meshes everywhere.

Ill have mess around with the coronas. And there was definitely a point where i was just adding floating meshes lolz. BSP is difficult and I still only kinda know what im doing but i feel its going well.

Follow that tutorial Spanky and I posted. It has everything you need to know about BSP. It's not all that time consuming either.

Sometimes the best way to improve your skills is trying to make a copy of a map you like from memory. Or make a real place you've been to from memory. I remember when some people were trying to practice BSP, they used to try building their own homes.

I have been lolz. If it wasnt for that tut i would have no idea how to use bsp at all. Without it i would still just be deleting doors :P

One more suggestion, I would spend a lot of time practicing vertex editing. It is super useful and MUCH easier than guess and check with the red brush for BSP. Even with the ruler it's difficult to get the exact measurement of things, and that's when vertex editing comes in handy. Sometimes it's easier to duplicate an existing BSP and vertex edit it to fit other things. I use it a lot for subtractions and zone portals.

Yep. Just make sure your doing all of this on the grid.

so i've run into quite the roadblock. It seems ive created a hole in the space time continuum. Here's some screenshots of whats happened:

I havent done any editing near this area and im not sure what caused it or how to fix it. can someone help me out here?

Looks like a BSP tear. They happen when you misplace BSP and don't keep things on the grid. Look at the BSP in the area, is anything not lined up to the grid? Static meshes can also cause problems if they overlap with BSP, but that's a lot more rare.
