Post by: Possessed on Sunday, May 13, 2012, 02:31:22 AM
1st:
I just noticied that u can see snow through objs:

2nd:
Tracer effects makes the water Black (dynamic light issue?, or its a graphical issue on my end?), only happens in  maap Ice:

and, is that water or Ice?

The first one I think is a draw issue. If it's an emitter, it can probably be fixed quite easily. The second one is interesting. Gonna see what Blue says about this.

early with onboard video, water/ice was ever blank/white, in 2.8 I was not able to see parts of the floor/walls in Snake Plain and Water threatment ;D

Oh, if it's with onboard video then that explains it. Onboard is meant to display text, not 3d graphics :)

From a distance, I've seen small squares of ice turn black when people fired their weapons. I should have used a different type of texture to make the ice.

That map has a lot of problems.

EARLY, I'm not using onboard anymore ;D
Code: [Select]
foreach MyController.Level.DynamicActors(Class'Emitter', emitters)
        {
                MyCanvas.DrawActor(emitters,True,True);
        }
thats to draw Wire emitters through objs, 1st True ,Wireframe, 2nd True, draw through objs

something needs to be false in the map  :o?

Probably an option that needs to be ticked on the emitter actor.

But pssssshhhhhh, this way it looks like there is more snow.

SF Blizzard has snow right? take a look there.

Meh, is Ice that popular of a map that falling snow needs a fix?

lol

I just don't particularly like Ice. It does need a lot of fixing though, so it'll happen some time.

Playing this map often I can say the map does have several issues as previously stated. I am wondering if it should have been called "Lake" rather than "Ice". If you think about it, if the lake was frozen how would you be moving under it and still be able to shoot above the ice? Are you poking a hole in the ice and then shooting? LOL

Perhaps something that would have been a little more realistic would be that if it is ice you have to break the ice "get in" and then to be able to shoot through it you have to then break it again in a new spot you move to. Not sure if this is technically possible with the AA2 engine.

I think the map has a great concept but perhaps needs a bit more refining. Wish I had that capability.  :(

Wondering if some type of objective would be a good think or not as well.

ok, but, under cold (-30°) water??????

True. ICE makes sense but what doesn't is being able to shoot through it without breaking the ice it in some way? I mean are you on top of it, or under it? If under, then how are you able to breathe? Let say you break the ice jump in , you have to come up for air at some point, no? I don't know, perhaps I am taking it too literal. LOL

Perhaps what should be done is if you are in the ice(under it per se) instead of making the normal "shuffle" sound when moving when lying down it makes a "breaking the ice" sound as you move throughout the ice. Not sure if this is possible. This way you can tell if someone is moving in the ice rather than moving on land.

Just a thought.

All of these issues are because nobody ever tested the map before it was placed in mAAp. Actually, Ice has been in mAAp for a long time but Assist only recently garnered a community so this is technically the first time people are being exposed to the map. The reason you can go under the ice is because of an engine limitation. For whatever reason, the game decided that certain flat surfaces have no collision. I didn't know that until I saw people play Ice. You can also fall out of the map in many places because I never finished the map lol.

I actually beta tested Ice for v6.0 and there were a lot of spots you could crawl out of the map on. :P But back then you couldn't go under the ice and you actually slid when walking on it if I remember correctly.

It would be cool if you made a big cave system. Or maybe a cavern map with like pools of water and what not.

Heh a cavern map sounds cool. It would make for a good AI map if that ever happens.

I'm not sure if I should add a second terrain to Ice to use as the cave floor, or to make the floor as part of the static mesh. You have to add collisions for static meshes manually so I was sort of inching towards a second terrain.

I support Ice becoming a big OBJ map with caves. Killaman and Max, go do it. Or I will next time I get Vyvanse.

Why would I do it when Blue is working on it?

Do all your forum posts have to mention drug use in order for you to function properly?

I haven't mentioned drugs in a while... and it was just a cynical joke >:]

Srsly tho if anything possibly a different sound for when you're walking on the ice

This reminds me of one of the things I always wanted to do in AA; re-recording sounds. I have boots and a wide variety of terrain including snow and ice. I just lack a high-end mic and the willpower to do it.

that would be really cool. people would notice too because of how important and noticeable sound is in this game.
