Title: Got two ideas one old and one new........

The old one I had back in 2005 a Mogadishu map fairly large, with today’s servers and bandwidth it should be able to host 64 players 32 a side......... The other idea was destructible lights, lights that blew out when naded or shot out. Is this possible?

Asisst doesn't support up to 64 as far as I know. I think 30 is the max. I might be wrong though.

Destructible lights are possible and there is even one in mAAp Pipeline on the watchtower outside.

Assist could be changed and LowPingServers.com could host servers that large with a few clicks.

As for destructable lights, they are definitely possible. A big issue I had though is that you could shoot them and they'd go out but you could shoot them again and they'd come back on :) Also, they are hideous and shouldn't be used for main lighting. Dynamic lights go through walls and have a very specific radius. They should only be used for coronas really.

The lights would actually add a new perspective to the game in some of the maps. Like insurgent camp in the building  the lights wouldn't be on if being attacked. how about a light switch?

The problem with that is the close proximity of one room to another. A dynamic light would have to be very dim and small to not go through the wall. Go take a look at mAAp Pipeline's tunnels, you can turn the lights on/off.

Yea. It's a really cool idea and there's all kinds of things you can do but when you see it implemented, there's really no good way to make it look right inside a building. I tried to illuminate the bathroom on mAAp Pipeline with dynamic lights and while it worked, the lights looked FAR from realistic. I scrapped the whole thing. Outside could be really cool. Insurgent Camp could be darker and have a couple more spotlights as well as tent illumination that could be shot out.

the idea of 64 players in one game for aa scares me...lol

can we do something with insurgent camp so its dark, i mean no matter how high the gamma or brightness it is still fkn dark! with just a few lights where you can see.

That's why you use nightvision. I would like to see some light under the west objective in UA because I play with almost maximum brightness and I still didn't see the guy there.

1.) good luck trying to get 64 people in a server

2.) People already complain about people camping. Imagine a 64 man server.

3.) You are taking away the classic game play. If I wanted to play a FPS with that many people I'd go play battlefield.

I could host such a game on my home gig, it's a i73690x with 64 GB Ram
and my internet connection is 200 Mbits

I talked to (I believe Pinky or Bridge) and they asked me if it would be possible for me to make a Insurgent Camp SE type of map. I told them yeah its possible. so they may be up for that. :)

it shouldn't be hard to extend the main area and maybe add some mud/stone houses and maybe 1 more tunnel system and change objectives around a bit. maybe do like a weapons cache obj or have assault penetrate def base for a carriable obj and then they have to extract it or something.

haha. I didn't really know how good you were with the editor so I didn't say you. But give terrain a go. It's more frustrating than fixing zones.

With terrain, you have to double-check what tool/option you have selected before you do anything at all. Sometimes the dialog box will mess up and all the options will be jammed together but this also happens on surface properties too...

This is something I never understood. Why wouldn't you want more players in a server? Constantly I see 2 hospital servers full. Imagine the gameplay if they were all in the same server! Of course, if it's laggy, we wouldn't do it but why not 32 slots? Why not 36?

Who would want to wait that long to play between rounds? I know I wouldn't. Large player servers are great in games with respawn. in AA, not so much.

It can often take a while on full 26-slot servers. I'm not wholly agreeing with 64 slots, I doubt the engine would do it without lagging somewhere but 32-38 or so might be pretty good.

We already have a server on pipe with 32 slots, almost full today. I can tell you it;s a massive chaos... Assault becomes defence and vice verca. 32 slots is good, but it's only good on a big ass map with like 5 minute playtime, because nobody wants to wait that long if they die.

I think the 64 player was lost in translation. I was wanting to know if we could implement a map of Mogadishu (Black Hawk Down for those who don't know) which was a game with 64 players on a map. Create our own map and test it to it's limits. I keep hearing camping, why is he camping? and all that jazz........folks real  Assault and Defence requires tactics and strategy, none of which is without teamwork or sitting in one position to defend an objective. Example AR is cover fire on Assualt and means basically cover an area with field of fire. On Defence it means hold your ground at all costs by laying suppression fire across the filed to keep the enemy at bay. I think you all got CS issues here. AAO was never intended to be a CS replacement. Teamwork, Strategy and tactics which I see little in a game. Everyone forgets the objectives and wants kills. Wins are either objectives taken or other team has all died  trying to reach their objectives. The game is about Objectives..............my opinion so fire away

The concerns still remain. The lag would be huge and the wait times would be very long. Nobody wants to wait that long just to play.

Oh, well that's not likely to happen. It's possible but I doubt anyone would be willing to put the time and effort into it.

lol. It would have to be an extension. There's nowhere to fit CSAR in UA or the other way around. Technically not impossible but very impractical.

We'll put CSAR upside down floating over UA and have jump pads to change what map you're on!
Not sure if that's even possible but it would be funny.

We could spoof that. Add CSAR outside of urban and set the roofs of both main subtractions to be a special portal much like the non-euclidian map for 2.8.5 I have.
