Title: Conform: Backward Compatibility
Post by: Possessed on Thursday, May 03, 2012, 16:26:40 PM
I noticied that demos from the non-assist AA don't work because of a file mismatch, in this case "T-Maps" package,
think of Assist demos, with new updates, old demos record with assist will not work.
cau you guys conform some packs for backward compatibility?

Yea, many times.

Over time, maps came and left, things were removed & added or changed. What's your goal here?

Like what though? The mAAps that are in Assist now don't even get played, and you're wanting to go for some other map that was removed for a good reason?

i think maap maps arent played because they arent fully tracked(nothing to do with assist), and I was thinking of tournament demos, thats why i posted it here.
map shots can be placed in another texture file(at least its what i think),  see tours.ini, I just want to help, Im not flamming the hard work  your guys have done  ;)

damn typos  :-[

I havent old demos recorded by me, i loaded 2 demos that comes with Pascam, in order to play a tourny you have to record a demo, thats my point, sry for begin too dumb with english :D

about the pascam demos, they work with the original t-maps file. and no,  i wasnt using pascam.

If it's only t-maps then we can try to conform it. Although all conform does is copy the binaries from the old package to the new package. The md5's are still different. I'm not sure it would work but I'll still try it.

will be diferent files, but will allow u to join a server, basically that is what a demo do, just update aa-pbsv.cfg with the new pb md5 hash, its up to you guys, final file size will increase a bit.

I'm lost. I still don't know what the point is.

Ahhhh okay. So when you add the md5 hash for the new package the demos work?

I'm lost. I still don't know what the point is.

think of the 2.5 league, it may require players to record in-game demos, demos recorded with assist v7.13 wil not work with assist v7.14 if the T-Maps.utx files get modified again, same with maap maps that have other dependencies(T-mAAp etc), conform make a modified file compatible with the original file, or the new modded file with the old modded file.
I'm sure BlueBaster can explain this beter than me.

well I dont know how it rly works, all i know is that you if modify T-maps.utx(or ay other file), users with the original file will not be able to join your server (and vice-versa), but if you use conform that wont happen, for some reason demos require the damn T-maps, I guess the same happen with maap maps. see my previous post

http://forums.epicgames.com/threads/743822-ucc-conform

edit, unless the aa version with editor have its own UCC, its not possible to conform the original t-maps with the one of assist, but i think its possible to do with newer version of assist in the future.  ;D

Well, I doubt anyone really needs to use demorec since mAAp is so rarely played. But we can keep this in mind for future versions. It's interesting though that demorec remembers old packages and references. I would have thought demorec would just be a list of player locations and actions with timestamps and whatever map it was played on.

I can try something which might work so don't worry :D Except I'm always busy so it won't happen soon.
