Title: Brave, but newbie
Post by: LeBastion on Tuesday, September 11, 2012, 07:08:42 AM
Hello,

Following my introduction post, I start mapping for AA25.
I downloaded version 2.8.3 of AA to begin and follow tutorials.
Well, if I understand correctly, I can create a map on 2.8.x, and then convert the assets into 2.5 with Eliz AARE's tool? (Via 3dsmax?)
Also, I've read, that a possible editor unofficial secret was in the strata mappers;)

To begin with, a small map. I have an idea that can be fun. I play paintball milsim, why not a map in mind, but with inflatable structures.

Another thing I am looking for any information maps with objectives (destruction, hacking, ect ...) in order to include another project map.

See you soon!

Nice :) I suggest you to read and try following those "commandments"

You can also look here for some guides and tutorials, as much as on the AAO25 forums.

Tell me, version 2.8.5 is better than 2.8.3?
Can I patch my version 2.8.3? or I download the full version 2.8.5?

There were a few complete 2.8.5 install archives around. Now the only nearest to being trustworthy enough (which i'm aware of) is Chevy's one. You don't need to download the updated tour.ini anyway, it's fitted with custom coop maps updates (chevy's place is a place where you can mostly find - and play - those ones).

Btw, of course you can patch your 2.8.3 (1 patch at a time, 2.8.3-> 2.8.3.1-> 2.8.4 -> 2.8.5 - i know it sounds awkward)

Thank you Koden,

If the editor 2.8.5 is better, I'll take it!
I also think Eliz Tool must be coded for this version.

I also found this link: http://ftp.free.fr/mirrors/AmericasArmy/
here there are linux versions, I see that you like debian?

Houaah! I return to my reading!

Eliz made a 2.8.5 to 2.5 converter(v1.1), search somewhere in the forums ^^

Have you given your terrain a layer with some sort of texture to start with? The picture doesn't show layers info so i can't tell. Don't forget to hit the Build all button when you assign new layers because otherwise you'll just see a wireframe object.

This is a beautiful tutorial if you have any doubts about those kind of things (and it really explains a lot of things,  - especially technical matter - down the way).
