AI in 25Assist?
« on: Friday, April 10, 2015, 00:38:33 AM »
I've decided to start researching what would be needed to add some "real" AI(Bots/Civilians) to 25Assist.
I cant guarantee that it will lead to something useable.  I might end up with an AI stupid as a brick. It might also turn out that adding all that is needed is more than I can put in.

What do you think?

Snake plain, Interdiction, Hospital SE?

Interdiction *-* please Eliz!

Jokes aside, Interdiction is the smaller one and easily the most playable (among coop missions) because of its size and layout. Snakeplain is huge and you end up needing vehicles of some sort to get around. ES2 Border was not the easiest map to get through for unexperienced players (so it might become frustrating). Hospital SE...if the AI is limited to civilians running around, well then it doesn't add much ^^ .

Might be fun for you to check out the SoarAI included with the editor. They're the smartest AI I've seen for AA but they only seem to work offline.

Thanks Eliz whould be great. Take a vote for the map if ya like. Just a quick vote no need to wait if you want to satart asap.
Words are great possed but the tune is crap. A condeming fear strikes down

Laying your guilt and pain. On people that had no part in the molding of a life
That creates its destruction. Lies. Right before your very eyes

Hello,

AI would be cool.

If you can do it, can it be done for all maps . . . . even Bridge?

@Eliz: To make it properly, Client and Server game rules needs to be rewritten - the simplest way is to rewrite GameInfo so you can add AI in the same way as the real players - but it pulls behind some complications.  Further more, AI needs to be replicated.
Anyways, be aware that adding AI to the Net will have significant impact on the internet traffic.
What if you could change the world by changing your perspective of it?
Would you?

I'm already picturing everyone playing on their own server against AI :D

Still an awesome idea if you can pull it off :)

I support every idea that makes the game more enjoyable for noobs. Playing against AI is a great way to learn the game, or just to mess around with friends. So if you can pull this off, it would be great! If you can't, that at least thanks for trying!

That's why i suggested Interdiction. It's something most people probably never played that much, and the layout and bots patrolling paths are designed so that you can have several approaches to it, yet it's not punishing because the amount of bots was not overwhelming but they were smartly put to patrol strategic places. And the bunker on Interdiction (the main area you get to play into) is made of 3 levels, so even if they tend to run around, usually they're working reasonably good and they cover the building in a decent way (they don't crowd up a corner with 6-7 of them, they don't run across the whole map, etc). Snakeplain and ES2Border worked different because of the size and pathfinding which obviously works to a greater size and also made for you to confront with quite a wide bunch of em on an open ground, which was more like taking down some running target practice tools :D .

Obviously my considerations are all made upon the 2.8.5 AI behavior, i don't pretend to know how Eliz is going to get AI to work but i tried to explain briefly a bit how they worked on my fav map <3 .

Well my issue with how Interdiction worked with AI was that they saw through the fog quite well and were therefore able to shoot you before you ever saw 'em.
