Title: 2.5 Editor
Post by: Maxbulldog_53 on Tuesday, May 08, 2012, 02:49:26 AM
Is there anyway for me to get my hands on the 2.5 mission editor? It just seems way easier than converting a map from the 2.8 editor to 2.5.

You have to ask spanky. He doesn't like giving it out to just anyone. You have to prove you have a decent knowledge of it and can make something decent. The goal is to not have a bunch of people making shitty maps and asking to have them put in AA.

For removing SF Hospital doors? I would say no.

If you show legitimate skill with UnrealEd, that would help change my mind. It's not about control, it's about having the tool freely open for noobs to come here and complain and ask the same question over and over again. Not to mention, people having different maps installed and good maps making it into Assist. The best way to counter-act that (IMO anyway) is to make people work for it. I have no problem letting people with skill have it. Killaman and Koden certainly showed that. I think it needs to stay limited for now.

*edit*
Killa beat me to it. In before Skrewy says something about bending over for me.

Ok yeah I understand. Basically I just wanted to see if there was a way to get ahold of it :D Also I've noticed since starting to mess around with the editor that it is very hard to find any tutorials at all. Basically I know how to create terrain and a skybox but the thing i really have trouble with is creating buildings and such (adding rooms to already existing maps and stuff like that. I've taught myself a good deal but i guess theres only so far i can go without help lol.

Here's an invaluable link for you:

When you learn BSP, be very careful. Killaman's map was so fubar it took me quite a while to clean it up. Maybe he'll comment on that in a way that explains it better.

Yeah, that's just because at the time I didn't understand how important it was that all of the BSP line up to the grid. I literally added everything and adjusted it in 3D view. If I were to start another map it wouldn't be like that. :P

Awesome thanks guys. I think I'm gonna try and mess around with a map that already exists before I try to build anything from scratch but that website looks to be a huge lifesaver.

That website is great. I've returned to it many times because sometimes you forget things. Here's some more sites:
http://udn.epicgames.com/Two/WebHome.html
http://wiki.beyondunreal.com/
http://www.kf-wiki.com/wiki/Help:Introduction_to_UnrealEd

Just make sure what you follow is for either Unreal 1 or Unreal 2, not Unreal 3.

No problem. Don't bother with Skrewy, he doesn't have the editor, this is one of the many reasons why I never gave it to him.

*edit*
Damn, again Killa! It's actually not really illegal for Skrewy, since he's international.

I doubt that's the case. If that were true anyone could steal UE3 and make a game outside of the U.S. without paying Epic for the engine.

One can't simply steal UE3. One can only download it for free: http://udk.com/

Didn't realize that, but my point is still valid. Just use another Engine that isn't free as an example.

@ Max, i suggest you learning on the 2.8.5 editor, if you'll be able to produce something interesting you'll have much higher chances, and you will also be able to convert your map to 2.5, so there's virtually no drawback. Just keep on elder material from 2.5 (everyy material tagged with AAO in its name it's most likely more modern than that) and avoid using 2.8.5 AI (because 2.5 and 2.8.5 are pretty much different and you would end up with a bunch of missing links once converting).

One can't simply steal UE3. One can only download it for free: http://udk.com/

Yeppers it's brilliant, they also have a 50.000 $ royalties free commercial license (you don't even need to pay 1 dollar to Epic up to 50.000 $ of revenue).
