Title: [XBOX] AA: Rise of a Soldier
Post by: Spanky on Friday, August 16, 2013, 03:48:34 AM
Earlier today Possessed sent me a download link for the XBOX ISO of the America's Army Rise of a Soldier game. I downloaded it and while it looks like most of the maps have at least the same name, I think it would be worthwhile to peek at the assets some more. I recall seeing screenshots of slightly different map versions, for one, Bridge had falling snow.

This is where ELiZ comes in; since you decoded 2.8.5, this should be somewhat easier since the devs didn't necessarily have to worry about UScript or injected hacks. I've uploaded the maps, textures and meshes into the mAAp Dev Folder on dropbox called AARS XBOX.7z. If you get some time ELiZ, you know, between working on building your business and working on digital camo and all the other things you're doing here, it might be pretty cool. I know that if nothing else, there's AI code on there but I didn't upload that.

This may or may not be a help but it looks like there was a console-only UT game and from the looks of this thread:
http://forums.epicgames.com/archive/index.php/t-714425.html
People ripped the maps and mods for use in UT2004.

Also, this is a public thread and not a PM because if there is progress, it'd be nice to share it with users :)

I was wonder what those files were. :P

I'm wondering about the legality of this though. Ripping stuff from ISOs isn't exactly legal.

Quoteth from the good book: ArmyGameEULA.rtf, page 2, notation 3:
Quote
Except as otherwise provided in this Licensing Agreement, you may make copies of the Software and distribute them as long as the software is fully attributed to the Developer, the Software is whole and unmodified in any way and it is provided without charge to the recipient or any other party.  This software may not be distributed as part of a package (with additional software or other products) without express written permission from Developer.

We've already crossed that line.

Despite my hardware being exponentially faster than a XBOX, it would probably stutter on FPS. I'll delete that file on Dropbox then since ELiZ will probably download the whole thing.

What's that? Sorry, I'm distracted by my 11.7GB space.

wish I could find an PS2 iso, if they released the game for PS2... we can't emulate xbox isos..
and, this topic was to be private, or do you want to get a lawyer at your door?

The xbox version was ported by a 3rd party company (including Ubisoft). They licensed the use of logos and stuff.

Probably really few games can run on the xbox emulators, the ps2 is older and easier to find emulators for (pcpsx2).

Sorry for digging this...

I also have an Xbox with XBMC. I tried AA back then (Long time ago), but deleted it right away, it looked to me like it was worse than the PC version (anyway I wouldnt ever play such amazing FPS on the Xbox).

Is there really anything better or added to the xbox version that we can't find in the AA2.5 (I didn't even lost time to watch the whole game on the xbox)??

ps: Back then AA was on fire, 24/7, Good Times...
Keep Cool

That's what I was hoping to answer if ELiZ could convert the maps. I doubt the maps are exactly the same on XBOX. There are similar maps and different training maps.

The only difference I know of for sure is that there's snow on Bridge. A lot of things just look different:

Different engine, called YETI.

You shouldn't even mention that game... It even has nothing to do with America's Army (it just have same name, but its a very different CRAP).

I have a RGH X360 too, but didn't even bothered trying that crap AA for X360.

ps: AA3, AA4, AA True Soldiers, they can all BURN IN HELL  :makemyday:
Keep Cool
