Title: Upgraded form Windows 8 to 8.1, Surround Sound gone

Hi,
I did the Upgrade via Windows Store and from then on I only have the front speakers in AA 2.x.
All other programs work fine, even Army 3 and 4. Only 2.5 and 2.8 have this problem.
I re-installed assist incl. Army 2.5 and the Realtech driver. No effect.

Did you have real surround before and not just quadraphonic? I might lean toward it being an engine issue.

H/W 3D + EAX used to work fine. Quadphone + Center. When I use the Realtek HD Audio-Manager I can tick every single loudspeaker and my headphones work fine. In AA 2.x only front speakers work.

Check and see what settings are in the Windows audio control panel, make sure it's set to output to the amount of speakers you have.

On another note, if you're using quadraphonic, that's not real surround sound. It's just stereo in front and stereo in rear. No problem if you like that but I thought I'd mention it.

Windows Audio Setting is 5.1 and works fine. I always tested the sound by setting front speakers to 50%, rear to 100% then I toss a smoke and turn around. If it gets louder everything is fine. But thats history :-(

I did some reading and I don't think AA's engine supports surround sound does it?

Spanky, everything works fine on WinXP; re-activated my retired XP computer and this works pretty well.
With windows 8 it took me a while but then the configuration worked. Unfortunately it does not work with windows 8.1. Amazingly, noone else seems to have this problem. So it must be a problem between my ears. Ill work on it.

Sorry man, wish I could be of more help. Seems like you tried most of the things I thought of anyway. I'm on Win8 but it's been a long time since I've messed with surround sound.
