Psh, neither of your guys' monitors can compare to my god-like 5 year old Acer VGA-only backlight streaking 20" monster!

At home i have a 15 inch (or so) Nec CRT from 2000. :) still working and offers a better colour fidelity than the lcd panels from the laptops i had and have now (but also better than most of the standalone lcd monitors)...planning to buy a budget IPS monitor in a month or two, since i'm using a Samsung laptop with a screen that is pretty much utter bad.

The only thing is that i'm trying to look for a model under 300$. Kind of a budget one, so i was looking at a couple of AOC and LG models. This LG model costs 190 € here in IT.

Or either this Asus at 180€. It also has a slightly better colour fidelity.

Also the Samsung f2380 http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/samsung_f2380.htm

Fuck me, someone else on here actually knows about IPS monitors! Truth be told Koden, I don't think sub $800 IPS panels aren't that great, there's comprimises in quality from the true IPS panels and some aren't much better than the regular TN panels. This is just want I've gathered from reading about those e-IPS. I had my eyes on the U2011H or whatever it was from Dell but being twice the price of a regular LED TN panel and only marginally better, I decided it wasn't worth it.

It's easy to find cheap used quality CRT's but I wouldn't buy/use one. I personally prefer the less size, weight, and power consumption of an LCD, even if it's a TN panel. I had a Dell IPS panel monitor and aside from normal color saturation/brightness variances between manufacturers, I noticed no real improvement over my TN panel. In fact, I liked it less due to the screen damage and high response time.

Old quality CRT still rocks. The fact about budget IPS panels, they usually offer a nice colour fidelity and very good contrast values. I wouldn't spend 140/150 € on a TN panel while i might spend 180 on a ips one (after reading at least a couple reviews).

I knew about IPS monitors. I also know how most IPS monitors under $600 have a lot of problems such as long response times and awful light bleed. Just look at some newegg reviews. Even if you have the money to buy a $600 one, it's not really worth it for an IPS.

I agree with your point after converting dollar values but a decent LED TN panel (one I've been eyeballing) is under 115€. For 180€ you can afford an IPS. I would personally take that difference and put it into a more powerful GPU :)

Still, low end IPS models are close to double the cost of a decent TN panel but I don't think they offer double the image quality and you can't get an LED IPS anywhere near 180€. LED is a must for me, I'm tired of seeing CCFL bulbs die or streak.

*EDIT*
Here comes Killaman sneaking some logic in before my post.

Response times depends on the model, some ones feature decent times.
