Title: iPhone Fail
Post by: Spanky on Sunday, December 06, 2009, 01:07:32 AM
There's this show on NBC called 30 Rock and for a while they were/are kinda sponsored by Apple (Apple was in the credits) so you'd see a bunch of Apple products throughout the show. iPhones/iPod Touches they have an accelerometer that can detect how you're holding the unit and turn the screen to match. With all this said, that feature failed in an episode that was broadcast nationwide. I find it funny that Apple let that happen to one of their products.

BTW, Alec Baldwin held it for several seconds like that so it wasn't just a delay issue.

Interesting read. All portable electronics have the potential to do that due to a battery. IMO, that would be another reason to get later generations as that stuff might have been improved/fixed.

Spanky, I told you that the iPhone doesn't always flip the screen right. From my experience you have to touch the screen to get it to flip, if I remember right.

No. You dont need to touch it. Honestly I think the accelerometer is kinda sucky since I find I need to shake the thing a bit in order to get it to flip. Or I have to rotate it slowly. Not cool if you want to show someone something real quick and your waiting for the fucking thing to figure out where UP is.

Or in some crazy money grubbing scheme, Apple thought it would be cool to let other developers develop applications for the phone, and those developers, in some kinda crazy money grubbing scheme, could decide whether or not to make use of the accelerometer.
