Custom RCA Interconnect Cables
« on: Tuesday, June 21, 2011, 19:41:08 PM »
This is somewhat a continuation of the previous thread that I made about speaker cables. I bought parts all at once to have materials for both these and the speaker cables but the slow shipping on the RCA plugs halted the creation of these. They are made with Mogami Neglex 2534, Techflex, 2:1 heatshrink and some interesting 24k gold plated plugs. I think it took about an hour and a half to make these.

Wow. You made these? I don't believe you, they look like you just bought them and took them a part.

Hehe, I did make them :) Here's the plugs I used:

If I bought them and took them apart, I would have to cut the heatshrink off under the plug and slide the techflex back, take the picture and then reassemble it myself (which would require cutting the wire in order to fit more heatshrink on). May as well build one at that point :) These are my 2nd RCA cables. The first would be these:

Same wire but different plugs and since I had techflex left over, I decided to put it on.

They both look gorgeous. How was the soldering process?

It's really easy when you get the process down and get your soldering iron super hot. What I do is put some flux on both the wire and the gold parts I will be soldering to then I get a little dab of solder on the iron and "tin" both the wire and the plug then combine the two and it melts together super quick and easy without burning insulation or your hands.

I also picked up my new DAC (Audio-GD NFB-12) today (http://twitpic.com/5fs0si) and got to use these RCA interconnects for the first time. I really like them. They're way snugger than any other RCA plug I've used and really sturdy too. I used to use the well known brand Neutrik but I will probably switch to these for anything else.
