Title: Guess who jumped ship to AMD
Post by: Knight on Saturday, January 08, 2011, 20:40:34 PM
I have a 6 core black edition 1090T on the way....I would have gotten an i7 but I had to get mobo/cpu and ram for under 400 and AMD is the only way I could get an upgrade in that price range...so yeah we will see how this goes. Should be here by Wensday.

When you multitask and idle at 2.5GB usage then load a game or an intensive program, you'll know why.

QFT,

any ways its only dual channel ram but AMD can't do tri...and I didn't want to spend an extra 100$ on tri channel ram. I figure its faster than my old ram and there is twice as much...should be ok.

Skrewy said that as a joke because he has 8gb of ram..... Was I the only one who caught that?

I have never need over 4gigs. I mean I run cs4 and design high res files over 2gigs, and never missed a beat.

When running cs5 I was using almost a full 4 gigs. With vegas its the same way.

Not to sound like an ass but thats sad if cs5 is using a full 4gigs. I can run ps, ae, msn, entourage, ff and still be able to work on huge native file sizes.

On topic: I use to run amd and msi mobo when I use to game, and i loved them a lot of people clown on amd but i for one have never had an issue.

I run AMD. It's pretty good, it adds and subtracts numbers like any other CPU. If the CPU gets too hot the computer just resets. I like that especially when I don't want others to use my computer. Ill turn off the fans and use the reset as an excuse for them to gtfo.

LOL Blue kinda said my thoughts: It's a CPU and it does what CPU's do.

*EDIT*
Using Photoshop CS5 (4 images), Trillian, X-Fire, Chrome (10 tabs), 2 Folders open, Remote Desktop Connection, Dropbox, Rainmeter and 10 other background applications I'm sucking down 2.89GB of RAM.

People may not use more than 4GB but having that buffer room is really nice on the occasions you do creep over it.

Yeah, with cs5 and vegas plus pretty much every thing nate said (minus the remote desktop) and truecrypt I was maxing out my ram easy. In fact I couldn't run cs5 and vegas at the same time or my computer was un-usable. And I have never been an intel fan boy, both company's make good products. Intel is the performance king right now and AMD is the budget king right now. I'm sure this will change but for now thats how it stands.

Out of curiosity, did you attempt to RMA your PSU (or your RAM for that matter...) or test any of your parts or anything?

Tested every thing and my mobo/cpu are both out of warranty.

Mobo/cpu and one ram stick dead. Psu is fine I borrowed a psu tester from my friend. I talked to that same friend and he says that Asus MIGHT replace/upgrade the mobo which would be cool cause I could then sell it and pay off what I owe for these computer parts.

Side note, AMD stock coolers are weird as hell to put on. Should have every thing up and running tomorrow. So tired.

Eh screw that I don't like to jump to the "newest" os until its been out of a while. Less bugs.

There's always going to be bugs and features that need improvements. Microsoft can't let anything major through on a release so your point is invalid. If you're talking about Release Candidates or actual Beta versions, sure. But, jumping on the newest release when it's released is no different than jumping on it months down the road.
