Delta's Lenovo G460
« on: Monday, May 17, 2010, 23:45:17 PM »
I got my laptop today, it's the Lenovo G460 (06772WU). It arrived without any visible damage, and I can't find any dead pixels in the screen either. By default it came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, along with a dozen other pre-installed programs. I uninstalled some of them, like McAfee and oovoo. I've had trouble updating to the latest Nvidia drivers for the Nvidia GeForce 310M graphics card it has. I don't know if there is some problem with Windows, or somehow they blocked the installation of non-Lenovo drivers. The Nvidia driver version it came with is 188.38, or some number like that, which sounds old to me. GPU-Z said it doesn't support OpenCL or PhysX, so I don't know if that's a result of the old driver. Anyway, I'll keep this short, I don't want it to sound like a review.  ;)

Here are a couple of pictures:

And finally here are a few tests:

Looks nice :)

I wouldn't use a pre-installed Windows OS however.

BTW, how much was this laptop?

Ohhh, that's a nice finish on the outside lid :) I'm with blueblaster, I wouldn't use it either but I've heard a lot of reports about Windows 7 OEM computers not coming with a re-install disk and that's what happened to Delta so I didn't recommend formatting to him :) However, he should be able to download Windows 7 and install the proper certificate and key and be valid.

Yeah, I would reinstall it if I had a disc, but it only came with a manual.

BTW, Spanky modded an Nvidia driver for me, so I was able to update to the latest version.

BTW, how much was this laptop?
It was $787.53 with a 3 year warranty and tax.

This laptop was an investment for me, and I plan on having it for quite awhile. I didn't want to live with a cheap laptop for the next few years.  :)

Anyways, it was $699, the tax and warranty is what made it $787.59.

Yeah, so far I am really happy with this laptop. And it seems faster than my desktop at some things. My only real complaint is that it seems to attract dust.  :)

Wow, I just looked up my super Pi 1m score and I come in at 000h 00m 17.458s.... Mind you my Q6600 runs at 3ghz, so your 2.27ghz cpu is just the tiniest bit slower than mine. Sigh.

Yeah, the i series has a little ground on the cores, but not much. The  i5 can also turbo boost itself up to 2.5GHz when I need the power. I was really surprised I got that though, it's lots faster than my AMD in my desktop. I might just use my laptop for video encoding now.  :)

Not fair, my laptop only clocks to 2.5GHz.  :)
