I've run "Assist" on Windows 8, but as I'd wrote to You in secound post in this topic: Biggest problem is PunkBuster that will kick You in cause of detecting violation of UNKNOWN WINDOWS API FUCTION. KPW?

Haven't done much other than look around and web surf on 8. Don't suppose there is a compatibility mode that can be used to get punk buster happy is there?

but as you know there is always a big difference between beta and final releases, very big differences.
so why not let players find out at that final version what is working and what not? and by myself i do not have an error with punkpuster, i have one with ..obj...
and maybe (not you spanky) someone can fix aa25assist (jonny?) to make it run again with win8...or this game will be dead within one year, because everybody has to install win8 earlier or later.

Not everyone is going to install it. Some of the news on it said some big wig for microsoft had to be helped out with using windows 8. LOL I would guess 85% or more of us will end up using it but I know people still holding on to windows xp, bout like those of us not willing to let go of AA 2. I am going to install it and give it "another" try one of these days but I am going to wait and see what other problems arise with it first.

If someone really want to play this game, he will play whataver happen. I have disc specially for AA with XP installed, and I have no reason to cry.

yes, if you would like to have a multiboot system, this is a way it will work for sure, but then you have two windows installed and you have to update, to have secure, to have keys for and and for both. it is a solution for sure, but there must be other ways, hopefully.

btw: i am not crying about, but let's have a look forward into 2013/2014. maybe more than 50% of the players have changed to win8 - and then the game will die very fast. so i just asked about a way to let aa25assist run under the newest and official released windows, thats all.

@spanky: sorry about my post, was a bit under presure. and thank you for the work you are doing to keep this game alive!

Running a game virtually won't have very good performance. That's why Linux users don't do it.

If you want to play this game use linux. With valve and steam coming over it will one day be the main pc gaming platform.

But Jonny aren't the lack of drivers updates the main issue? Haven't tried for a while but i remember having Ati drivers not being updated, same with Creative audio, etc.

I had an ati graphics card that never got an official linux driver card, for as long as I used it at least.

But I haven't used linux in some time now either.

ATi got bought out a few years ago. A lot of companies are now introducing Linux drivers, Nvidia being one of them. I think Linux has a lot of potential, as does OpenAL, OpenGL and the like. However, DirectX is the norm and there's a fair bit of catching up, showcasing and pushing to do before OpenGL can overtake it.

I doubt openGL will ever over take DirectX. Microsoft gives too much support for devs to abandon it.

yes, i could install all needed drivers with virtualbox extended pack, but then punkbuster was going crazy with "unknow os"
so i will make double boot.
btw: but if this could be fixed - maybe - please tell it to all of us.
thank you
