Jonny, can we get VSync enabled by default? Every time I'm in-game and am reminded of it via horrible tearing, I can't access the settings so I say "I'll do it later" but never do. IMO, there's no reason not to have VSync enabled by default but there will be a big discussion about it following this post I imagine.
-
I say leave it be, if people are on low end machines they will suffer from performance issues.? Right?
-
I don't see how it would cause performance issues. On Pipeline, my FPS will dip below 60 and with VSync on, nothing happens. I mean, I've seen people complain that VSync will lock them down to 30fps if their computer can't maintain 60 but I have never ever seen this happen on any game and I always have VSync enabled.
-
I usually dont enable vsync cos I need 60-120fps on all my games
Hard to see all those extra frames as they sit un-used in your GPU's output buffer.
-
I heard Skrewy plays with a 120Hz refresh rate.

I heard Chuck Norris makes his setup run at 480Hz.

haha!
Well Vsync makes my laptop to even lag more.
But on my desktop I use it on since AA runs well on my desktop...
I have always had troubles with AA performance.~I always played it on max settings since the first time, back in 2003 or 2004... I had the ATI 9600XT. It runned well, but sometimes it just had a huge fps drop.
And all I could see is that if I used low settings, it happend the same, so the settings didn't really affected much my performance. Also I had the shadow bugs, which I could see all enemies from walls :)
Then I bought the X1800GTO which is a lot more powerfull, but same problem as before... Though If I remember well on AA2.6 it started to really work smooth.

Why do you constantly admit to hacking and act like you're cool for it? All you're doing is giving me more reasons to dislike you. It's annoying when people that ruin games brag about it.
-
Enabling full shadows allows you to see the enemy's shadow near walls or sometimes through. You misunderstood, Killa.
I think.

heh, maybe I did. But he did bring up hacks a lot in the other thread. I assumed he was talking about shadow bot. :P
-
The shadows poking thru walls bug is really a map design flaw 90% of the time. It's because the walls are too thin and so when player shadows are projected, a lot of times they go thru the wall to the other side. Sometimes this is un-avoidable, but most of the time the solution is to just make thicker walls haha.

i bet he wants to kill himself now

Sorry, I should never have talked about that, it was kiddy..., but it was just a point of view to say that 2.5 UC is pretty much alive, and old people all used to know how to hack with uc...
Well about the shadows, I always had problem with that on my computer, it happend to ATI9600XT and to X1800GTO, and the worst is that if I shoot some door, it would become all black and it killed like 20fps or so. I think they fixed that either with AA2.6 or with the latest ATI drivers back then.
ps: They knew about the problem, so since AA2.6 the shadows were always disabled in every official server!

If you shoot a door and it becomes all black, it means the game engine renders decals (aka projectors) in a way that the graphics card doesn't like. A lot of times, the way a game engine does stuff, graphics cards don't all interpret it the same way. Unreal Engine usually works very well on Nvidia cards. Thats just the way it is.
But those are old problems and should all be fixed by now with driver updates.
Now back to the topic of Vsync........if a user has an actual graphics card and has drivers installed from their manufacturer, then vsync is never a problem. Never ever a problem.

Sorry couldn't resist :)

lol, I have a bias towards Nvidia. I like them more for the dumbest reason: I understand the way they name their graphics cards much more than ATI. I always have to google when people talk about ATI cards.

Huge space for debate opening here...but i'd rather end here this (although interesting) offtopic.
However for the record and Spanky's disapproval i never use V-sync. Screen tearing isn't an issue for me, i get much more annoyed by lines aliasing.
-
Vsync is only worth it if triple buffering is enabled. Otherwise it's better to play with Vsync off.
However tbh, with the settings menu coming back, it's not worth turning Vsync on by default.

Haha I hate Nvidias....
I was an ATI fan. Though since AMD bought ATI and changed their name to AMD, Screw them.
I hate the nvidia control panel, why don't they change that crapt. And I have GTX570, however I'm only having problems with it, and I'm pissed. First, on the witcher I was always crashing, some times I loaded game everything got psychedelic. And las I'm having lag in every god damn modern gun which should run on max with this card.
And now after flashing the Bios of the graphic card, I cant install the lates beta updates or the PC just gives a blue screen and doesn't go to windows...
ps: I'm pissed why I didn't chosen HD6970 instead of this crapt GTX570

Guily, I'll take that piece of shit 570 off your hands if you want :)
I used to like Nvidia for one reason: CUDA. But ATI has caught up and now CoreAVC can use DXVA and some other method with ATI cards to render HD videos. Considering that and the fact that CUDA & PhysX are crap and that ATI uses less power and scales better in CrossFire... why buy Nvidia.
-
Hell yeah, I'm with you spanky :).
Ati improved so much. They used to be smoked by SLI, but for a long time ATI has probably even got better than sli.
About my GTX570, it's working the way I told. Every god damn game runs slow, Have lot's of 3d artifacts and textures not loading right (maybe it's defective).
And I can't test this computer, because I know no one around that has such an advanced hardware. So I cant test my DDR3 on other pc, can't test the graphic card in a proper pc that would have power for it and PCI 2.0... Everyone I know has older pc's and the maximum, I know a guy which has a Core 2 6600, but not ddr3, neither pci xp 2.0.
I'm screwed up to see what's the problem. (I bought the pc part by part from 3 different sites, and I mounted everything the right way)...
ps: Also I have a Raid0 of 2 500gb WD caviar black...
