earlier today, i tried putting a pass on the server so Ak4 could scrim the C4 guise. so i put it on, reconnected, and it wouldn't let me join. Even when I put the correct password in assist. it didn't let anyone else join either. so we tested it later and it still didn't work. am i doing something wrong here or is something bugged with assist?

The server password on the f12 screen is used by the stage 1 auth system.
To make a server private you need to set it on the server settings screen in assist and then restart the server, If its a dedicated server you need to edit aa25.ini and set the password there and then restart.
yes i know, its not as easy as it used to be.
and yes its a pain in the arse, these things i know.

Actually, for me it could not be easier using the Assist utility.
All I had to do is set the player password in "Server" tab and run the server. Had my server going with 6 people in no time.

Thanks for explaining that Jonny. I seriously thought I was retarded for a good few minutes. Is there any way this can be fixed or is it beyond your reach?

I think Jonny uses the player password as part of the authentication process.

It's not a bug. It's done on purpose.

I don't understand - why?

My understanding is this, if there was no password used anyone could join your server by console in AA and therefore bypass the entire auth system. To stop this from happening, they have a password that Assist uses to allow people to join assist servers through assist only.

To extend on what Killaman said, the server probably generates a random password that's then sent to the Assist master server. When a player joins, the player is authenticated and sent that password to be able to join the server.

Yes, thats stage 1.
once in the server stage 2 kicks in where an auth slot is used and your IP address etc. is check against a list of authorized players on the master server.
