Title: Question...
Post by: Botchla on Thursday, May 16, 2013, 00:46:02 AM
So I spent countless hrs building a map and realized afterwords that it was the V 2.8.3 editor.. Is there any way to use it on Assist now or will Assist update to 2.8.5 eventually?

We can convert your map, but the guy that does it is on vacation :)
COOP maps can be converted but theres no coop/AI in aa 2.5.

So I pretty much made a useless map? I'm confused lol.. So theres no way possible to add this map to a server on assist? How is this not fixed after this long?

theres no COOP or AI system in aa 2.5, it was added at version 2.7.
and no, 2.8.x maps(coop or not) aren't compatible with aa 2.5, 2.5 has its "own" AA Editor, to make 2.8 maps work in 2.5 you need to convert them to 2.5 format :)

As they said, it depends on whether or not it was a Co-Op map.
If it was a Co-Op map, it can't be used on 2.5
If it was not a Co-Op map, it can be used in 2.5 after being converted. There's a person who knows how to do this, but right now he's on vacation (not an indefinite one). Bare in mind, not all features in 2.8.x will be available on 2.5 (most are if I'm not mistaken).

But I think it would help if you posted screenshots or other media about your map to give it more value before converting.

No prob,, its called Pipeline Twist. I had the 82nd squads server in mind, but something completely different from the same ol. Metal doors you can't shoot through, access to a tower, security camera, bar, etc.
Here are some screen shots..

Well, I didn't wanna upset you, but in my (humble) opinion, as we already have a modified Pipeline version (mAAp Pipeline), plus the 2 Pipeline maps (SF "separate"), we really don't need an other version of Pipeline.

But it's just my opinion, how would I know? Maybe it's great!

Ahh.. Didn't know there was a mAAp version.. There's a lot more to it than the screen shots. Maybe give it a shot before trashing it?

I wasn't saying it's crap, I was just saying from the information I have right now, it doesn't seem like we need it. But as I stated in the end, how would I know? I've never played it and haven't even seen the complete layout.

No I meant trashing it like tossing it in the trash lol.. I would like to test it one day if I can get it converted or if anyone would like to try it out.

Spanky, I actually ran around your map the other day, you did a amazing job, need to keep that one running on a good server. :)

Its funny we both had some similar ideas, access to the water tank balconys, and the security cameras. The one I made has a more modern look and feel to it, but your map is killer.

I do like the modern aspect of yours. I went for an old and run-down russian station just for a grungy atmosphere.

IMO, you could do more with yours, just don't expect anyone to play it. I ran my pipeline for a long time on a server I hosted and rarely anyone would join it. I offered to give admin and all that stuff. Anyway, go for some big differences. Change the lighting outside, move some objects. Change things up. Keep at it.

Like yours you really can't see all the changes until your actually running around it. The reason I didn't change up to much is because that's what everyone is used to and also the reason most people won't stray from the original, I modernized it and changed up quit a bit, there's a few more things I'd like to do but need help, like removing portions of statics, converting it to 2.5, testing for bugs etc.

For me, that haven't played the original much, don't see the difference to Pipe.
I am almost religious in my feelings about Bridge Crossing, but can't see the point in the 100's of different versions of the Bridge out there.

Sure, it is easier to use an existing map as a start, and might be sufficient for starting out. In my opinion you will reach higher with an original design of the map.

I applaud your effort, and hope that you would continue to develop, we are here to help out as far as we can.. well I am at least.

Yeah you'd think but that's not really the case. In reality you have to make a gimmicky map like poolday to get people to play it.

Common sense would also say to take a map that's been balanced perfectly for years and bring it up to modern graphics like I did with Pipeline. It's still the same map, just has new tactics and more realism but everybody already knows the layout.

This is also a great point. Balancing is probably the hardest thing to do for a map.
